HI--- I will be changing from parnate an maoi to zoloft. Has anyone ever started an ssri medication quicker than the typical 14 day "washout" period. I've read before where this has been done though I can't remember where. The concern is obviously the possibility of the dreaded "serotonin syndrome" but 14 days is a long time to simply be on nothing. Ok thnx--:)

I went from parnate directly to imipramine. I stayed on the imipramine for two weeks then went directly to an ssri.

HI--I don't blame you one bit for being concerned about that required 2 week waiting period. I will be doing the same exact thing in a few weeks, except I'll be doing the opposite of you--going off Zoloft to an MAOI.
I'm very curious as to why you're stopping Parnate. Did you have a problem with it or what?
Also, concerning the 2 week waiting period, my doctor said that if I get into a bad mental state, he thinks that a sufficient dose of Xanax might be helpful since, at higher doses, Xanax does have an anti-depressant effect. I'm not sure I agree with that, especially if one's depression is severe. But yes, 14 days can seem like an eternity. I would NOT try to mess around with anything less than a 14 day wait. Good luck. Let us know how you're faring.
This is the end of the thread.
