HAS ANYONE BEEN PUT ON PROZAC WEEKLY?

Posted by atxbelle2000 on October 27, 2002, at 23:21:18

Two weeks ago my doctor switched my medication from effexor to prozac weekly. I don't think that the prozac is as strong as the effexor, but I've lost all interest in going to class, hanging out with friends, even getting out of bed. The thoughts of suicide have returned.
There is also the crying spells where I will cry for hours on end.

My S.O. and I had a fight about me talking about suicide. My foster parents are about 2 hours away because I'm off at college, so I can't really go to them for help. I think that if I told them of these thoughts that they would make me move back home and not go to school. I don't want to tell them of these thoughts because then they wouldn't let me be off at school and try to become independant.

I don't think that the doctor would put me back on the effexor because of all of the problems I was having while I was on it. But the prozac doesn't seem to be working. I'm on week 2 of taking the prozac, I know that prozac takes time to become effective, but it should've been working by now. I mean I should be able to tell a difference. I was wondering if anyone had been put on prozac weekly or if there were other things that have given people help. My doctor isn't just supposed to be treating my depression, I also have A.D.D. and anxiety attacks. Talk about a killer on my grades!

I am just so tired of not being myself. I feel like I am dependant upon others and I HATE that feeling.

Hi, sorry you're not feeling well. I was put on Prozac weekly about 6 months ago and had a major relapse after 4 years of stability with regular Prozac. I went back to regular Prozac augmented with Remeron and it took 3 months of getting back to semi normal. Call your doctor immediately and tell him what's going on. He needs to possibly switch you again which is not going to be fun but that is the nature of this beast. Also taking Klonopin helped during the very rough times. Good luck. Keep us posted.

Thanks for your advice. The only problem is that I'm 2 hours away at school. I must have had a forgetful day because my doctor called me on my cell and I had forgotten to turn the sound back on so when I lookeed at my phone that night it said I had a missed call. I will call him today after my classes. I hope that I get to feeling better soon too! So does my bf. Hope your day goes well!
