Two years ago, while I was on 60mg/day of prozac; one night I drank alcohol just after taking my third pill of the day, on empty stomach.
I was OK for one or two hours, but when I came home and laid down to sleep, I began to laugh out loud by myself, had a warm euphoric sensation in my body and a massive abdominal twitching sensation. (I had those twitches all the time while I was on Prozac, only not that strong)
Had anyone experienced something like that?
Also, today I read that only 1mg of fluoxetine was enough to totally inhibit the 5-HT reuptake. Since 20 fold of this dose is required to get a response, the antidepressant effect of fluoxetine seems to be related to some other mechanism than 5-HT reuptake inhibition. (the author's opinion, not mine)
Do we know anything new about the fluoxetine pharmacology?many thanks,
cem

I always thought being on prozac felt like going up on LSD. In a good way. It was definitely euphoric for me.

> cemHi, that's an interesting tidbit of information. I wonder if the 1mg number had something to do with a "threshold" level required for the 5-HT transporter to be affected at all instead? It would explain how people can use very small doses of SSRI's for anxiety/mild depression. When I was on Prozac, 2.5mg was the magic number for me (most of the time). That would also explain the "flat" dose-response curve of SSRI's (twice as much tends not to make twice as much difference, etc.).

Hello everyone,
I have also read somewhere, 5 mg of prozac is sufficient to produce an antidepressant, anxiolytic effect. But I am taking 20 mg daily now. Is there anyone with an experience with low dose of prozac who could still maintain the antidepressant effect?

Hiba, 2.5 mg of Prozac used to be my "maintenance" dose for anxiety. When I got depressed I would double it to 5mg and it worked for that. The only problem is that with higher-dose SSRI's I get this "breathing problem" where I can't seem to catch my breath. When I drop the dose back down I am OK.
This is the end of the thread.
