Serzone- Is anyone taking it?

Posted by Ivy on October 16, 2002, at 10:25:48

If you are taking it, what are you taking it for and what other drugs have you taken in the past and how much do you take and how often? How well is it working for you?

I was on it for about 9 months or so (300mg daily). It was the least disruptive drug I've had, with pretty minimal side effects. After a few weeks, I was barely aware of taking it, it was so mild. I could even miss a dose entirely and not notice it (not so with effexor). I think that because it was so transparent, I felt like it wasn't doing much, and stopped it. That was about 6 months ago. No discontinuation syndrome either.
I haven't noticed that many people on the board here using serzone. Seems like everyone's on effexor and lexapro. Maybe it's the liver damage problem.

I had the same results you did,
no side effects, no effects at all.
I know two people who've tried it with the same (non) effects.

I take 300 mg of Serzone at bedtime in addition to Wellbutrin SR 150mg x2. The Wellbutrin is for depression. The Serzone is for the generalized anxiety and to prevent panic attacks. I have not had any kind of 'pathologic' or abnormal anxiety since I started taking it. Sometimes I question whether it's working since I have lots of normal anxiety, but that is probably a natural result of being a wife, mother, and medical technologist. I noticed that when I flew on an airplane this summer I didn't really need to take Ativan like I normally do. I recently went down from 400 mg to 300 mg and I did notice some unjustified anxiety creeping in.

I tried Serzone once and it made me hypomanic within a day or two. Felt really great though and it lasted for about 3 weeks. I told this to my new pdoc and he says it might be a good idea to try it again now that I'm on a mood stabilizer (Lamictal) . I am kind of weary about the liver problem though this time, that info. wasnt available back then. I have a distinct problem (good or bad, I dunno) with 5HT2 antagonists like Serzone. I also tried Zyprexa once and it made me super hypomanic, and its supposed to quell mania!, worse than the Serzone. But again, it felt kind of good in comparison to how I normally feel. Maybe I can try that again too with the mood stabalizer, but my new doc has told me he is very suspicious about the antipsychotics being used for depression.. anyway, good luck with the Serzone, if it works well, its great because it really does feel like you're taking nothing, except maybe alittle drowsiness for me..

I take Serzone.. few months now. I use to have really bad panic attacks/anxiety. I am very med sensitive.... (Ive tried Paxil, prosac, Zoloft) and the side effects were unbarable. Serzone.... I didnt feel a thing at all. Sometimes I wonder if its working... but when i look back i know it is! I dont have panic attacks anymore at all. I have anxiety every now and then (after a night of drinking) but if you are med sensitive this is a perfect drug.

I was on serzone for a few years. I was taking it for anxiety. I was put on it after i had been on zoloft and never liked the feelings it gave me. I was also taking Tranzene 15mg. 3 times a day for depression and they both helped with the headaces i have always had. I really did great on serzone. Then when the liver scare came out my Dr. tested me to make sure i hadn't had any problems from taking it and took me off of it. He wanted me to try wellbutrin SR 150mg. morning and night. I have been on it for 6Mos. now. I hated it at first because it made me very nervous and very short tempered. Those symptoms finally went away. If it weren't for the possible liver damage, i would still be on it for sure.
