I found your website a few weeks ago but just now decided to make a post.
Ive been under the care of a shrink for almost a year but thats not to say I didnt need one before that. After a very stressful period two years ago and a few days on Celexa I started having panic attacks. My first shrink put me on Neurontin and after 7 months I came to the conclusion it wasnt making a big differnce. I felt this doctor had left me out to dry so I left him and found a new doc. Most recently with my new doc I have been on Zyprexa and now Seroquel at the moment.
Neither of these dr.s will RX me a benzo to help get through the anxiety and panic attacks and I find that unaceptable. I just dont feel the Sereoquel is doing anything either. Im on 800mg per day. Im also a chronic pain patient because of a broken neck from a car wreck years ago. I suffer from Spinal Stenosis and am only able to barely work. Im going through terrible depression right now because of this and the financial troubles.
Feels like im laying on the ground and everyone is just stepping over me. My question is mainly about the Serouquel and when could I expect some results? Also what about this permanent damage im reading about? The Seroquel does make my muscles ache and my leg feel stiff. Im scared of this stuff!
Whats a guy to do??
Thanks, David

You're absolutely right in finding benzophobia unacceptable. It's been shown time and time again that benzos are highly effective at treating anxiety and quite safe. Find a psychiatrist who is more interested in your wellbeing than frightened of law suits.

What is your diagnosis and are you on Seroquel as monotherapy? Usually atypical AP work, if they are going to work, in fairly short order, days to a few weeks. Let has have some more details and we can probably come up with some good advice.
You will get better, it just takes time and perseverance.
Feel Better,
Britt

You made me feel better about the Benzos, Britt. This makes two doctors that wont treat my condition. All I can tell you is that im on the Seroquel for what he says is Bi Polar disorder. He says were trying to bring me down or calm the brain and once that is done he is talking about an anti-depressant. Every since I can remember ive been caught in anxiety and it sure would be nice to not have to deal with it but I just dont think the Seroquel is cutting the mustard. I ask him about the Benzos and he said he wouldnt prescribe anything addictive. I feel like that is unethical ! Im also suffering from what I feel like is major depression and im not functioning in a way that allows me to handle everyday life problems. He is saying, work, work work and im thinking to myself, man you gotta get me feeling better. I do have a guilty concious about this and feel like im letting myself and others down. I just cant help the way I feel. Maybe thats alittle more info to feel you in.

>Depression and anxiety are a dreadful and very scary combination. Don't let him make you feel worse or more guilty than you all ready do. In my experience, there are those in the medical community that tend to blame the patient for not getting well, rather than looking to their own prescribing practice.
I didn't have much success with Seroquel; I couldn't tolerate a very low dosage (way below theraputic level), but you, as the patient, are the only one who knows if it is working for you or not. Get mad, get bolshy and, if necessary, get another doctor.
