gabatril

Posted by lois on September 10, 2002, at 17:38:18

Need new info on gabatril.I've been looking at some older posts with mixed reviews. I just started it a week ago and feel worse. I know it's early yet and sometimes this happens b4 you feel better, but I need to hear some *postitive* experiences please. (I liked neurontin, hated depakote) Also on topamax now and lamictal with ad's; and antianxiety drugs-that I am to taper as I go up on the gabatril. Has this drug *helped* anyone? Thx.
Lois

Did you start Topamax at the same time? I know Topamax made me very depressed...

everybody is asking about gabatril. i have used it as an add-on med for the last nine months. at 8 mg it has kept my panic attaks off, helped me breath easier, helped a bit w/ OCD, and keeps my moods from getting really crazy. sounds like a lot, doesn't it? i know. it makes me feel detached from everything in general, so it does all that in a general sort of way. i plan on staying on it for a while, it hasn't faded at all and i have heard that it shouldn't do so over a long period of time. Now, the side effects are not pleasant, but i think i am just hypersensitive to the stuff since i haven't heard anyone else complain like me. at the higher dose i feel tired and sick to my stomach at times (sure helps take the weight off). Twitches i had a while ago have come back full force. i am sensitive to hotness and coldness and feel high most of the time. but, it does all that i mentioned previously, so i am sticking with it. and praying that fall gets rid of this heat soon. take care.

The next day after I wrote my post I went up to 4mgs of gabatril and felt better. Just coincidental? I don't know, but that is today. So I have to see how I sleep tonight. It's supposed to help me get the deep sleep that I haven't gotten in a long time, even though I've gotten the *hours* in. But today I feel a little more alert and energetic:which feelings I also wasn't having either.
I have been on topomax and lamictal with no problems, for a long time, I and will probably stay on them for the long haul as I understand. I am tapering off my clonidine, then hopefully my benzos. We may do some other changes but will be over a long period. I take small doses of remeron, paxil, and seroquel-any of which would be nice to eventually cut out or decrease one day.
I don't know about side effects yet, but I am usually able to tolerate mild ones. Hope it doesn't make me sweat or gain wt.I can't stand that.

What other meds are you on? Is gabatril still going OK? I'm up to 6 mgs and and counting. A little nausea(not much). I feel better for a day after I increase the dose then depressed again until a week later, when I do another increase. I hope when get to therapeutic I'll be more even.

i am on paxil , risperdal, and sonata. i tried 8 mg but i was too exhausted, so i am back down to 4 mg. i am a little more anxious than i like on 4 mg, but i am staying here. i take gabitril for my mood too, which tends to go up and down every few hours. 8 mg really helped my moods even out, but since i am on 4, i am a little moody. nothing to really worry about.

How about 6? I'm taking it for sleep add on and for *energy.* I'm exhausted enough too. Oh well. I hope 8mgs doesn't exhaust me more,or I'll be almost catatonic.I want to continue full time work.
