Stims neurotoxic... why should I care?

Posted by JonW on September 5, 2002, at 6:25:42

Hello,

It is my understanding that stimulants are neurotoxic. What does that mean exactly? How should that influence my decision to be on a stimulant or not?

Thank You,
Jon

It would help to know where you read this.
Perscribed stims in normal doses are not
neurotoxic

Thanks. I didn't know whether they were or not. I read abstracts on medline that talk about the neurotoxicity of amphetamines. I wasn't sure how to interperet this in terms of dosage. I also read a post in Dr. Bob's tips about how methamphetamine depletes serotonin and dopamine so I was concerned.

If I understand you correctly, there's no reason to believe I'll be worse off after taking stims long term at normal doses?

Thanks,
Jon
