Stupid question but is this simply to counteract nausea or does it help in some way with the absorption of the effexor? I currently take Synthroid in the morning with my effexor and am not supposed to eat within one hour of the synthroid.
Thanks,
Nicole

In my experience, taking effexor on an empty stomach almost always resulted in nausea and stomach discomfort. I am quite sure it does not affect absorption significantly.

I have found that the effexor seems to work better if I take it with food... I believe, though I have no proof except my own experience, that food helps to keep it slowly dispersing in the body for a longer time and more evenly...
It seems to do a better job for me if I take it with food, of course I take my Effexor at night too, with a small snack...
crackers or something.. maybe you can try that??
Good luck!

I'm sorry I don't have an answer, but I want to thank you for asking the question. I have the same problem. I just take both together and wait to eat. I don't get any nausea. The best thing that happened to me regarding this, was hearing a thyroid guru on the radio tell a call-in who was taking his synthroid with food that he should wait to eat. But he told him 20 minutes was sufficient. I had been waiting an hour for years. That has made a huge difference in my schedule. It's such a pain mixing and matching drugs. I have others too. For instance - I have to eat with the Geodon. Anyway, thanks, I hope you get a definitive answer.
