medication induced restlessness

Posted by borderliner21 on August 25, 2002, at 18:28:12

I take 20 mg of paxil and 2.5 mg of zyprexa.
I find I am restless a lot. Is there anything I can buy OTC to help calm me?

either of those meds can induce akathesia- if you are already having symptoms at such low doses i would ask your pdoc about stopping one at a time to see which one is causing the symptoms. there are plenty of other ssri's and APs to try that may not cause side-effects. good luck-judy

I know for sure it is the paxil that is causing this effect. Paxil seems to be the best AD for me.
My doctor tells me Benadryl works for akathisia so I may try some. I have used paxil for a few years with this Side effect.

When I first started Celexa a few years a go I felt jittery. I took Kava Kava which helped to calm me down. It only takes about 30 minutes. I forgot the dose but you can research it on the internet. It might be best to run it by your doc first.

since you don't want to change medications, then kava-kava is excellent, vitamin B complex (especially B12), L-tryptophan and the omega 3 fatty acids. When my symproms were really bad (EPS, TD)- my pdoc prescribed cogentin. good luck- judy
