There are no physical withdrawal effects from olanzapine(Zyprexa) except feeling less tierd, more motivated and less depressed. I was on 20 mg per night, just as a guide....

I was supprised reading the previous post, the withdrawal sypmtoms I experienced from stopping Zyprexa was the complete opposite, extreme tiredness, less motivation and more depressed. Just goes to show that we are all very different.

I had insomnia for a few nights. I understand this isn't uncommon.

Well...I was told I could just stop it if I had problems. I did have problems. I lost my memory. I stopped it and within 3 days my neck and back muscles were causing me a lot of pain. Fricken docs. I decided to do a two week withdrawal from it. I was on 10mgs originally. I reduced it by 2.5mgs every 3 days until I was off it. This pretty much took care of the back and neck pain, along with some heavy doses of ibuprofen. I also suffered from some mild insomnia, but I have insomnia anyway, so there is no way to tell if the zyprexa was to blame or it was a re-emergence of the old insomnia.

Zyprexa did not do to me what I have read others on this board talk about as far as excessive sleep. Even at 10mgs at night I only slept for about 5-6 hrs.

I ran out of Zyprexa last week - I had terrible jittery feelings all day friday and saturday and really bad insomnia - the only thing that helped me sleep was beer - I don't usually drink alcohol. Now it's tuesday and I'm feeling somewhat better so will try to skip the beer tonight and see how I do.

Hello!
I've been taking 2.5 mg of zyprexia for a year for drepression. When it came time to come off the med with my Doctors help, I could not. My doctor had me take the pill every other day for two weeks then stop. By the sixth day I was nausiated, dizzy and had some insomnia. I felt awful. When does this go away. How long does one go on feeling this way before giving in. I could only make it six days. I just wish that someone who has simular problems and has succeeded in comeing off would give a recount of what they went through and the time it took.
Thanks
Lil

I know what you mean. For 4 years I took 10mg. Around June I went down to 5mg. Boy did I see a difference with in 2 days. I felt very weird for about 3 months. After that I sort of got used to it and decided to just come off all together. What a big mistake that was! I lasted about 9 days, started to loose it, called doc, and went on 2.5mg untill I could see him. Instantly (within 2 hours), I could eat and sleep again. Now I'm back to 5mg, hoping to stay here.

Sebastian,
Is zyprexa the only med you are taking?
Did you have insomnia?

Lil_Lee

I also take 40mgs of Celexa mid afternoon, with the 5 Zyprexa.

The Celexa makes me feel great! But I need the 5 of Zy to help me sleep, eat, and stop obsessing about things.

Major insomnia(nm)! My sleep was short, and very eratic. I would lie in bed, decide to get up, try sleeping somewhere else. My mind would race with ideas.

I woundered if taking small amonts, just little pices(very small) here and there, would have helped. I didn't like the sudden withdraw.

Sebastian
