I'm on 1,000 mgs. of Depakote and have not have my levels checked yet. How often should this be done? Is it likely that I'm already in the therapeutic range? I'm still cycling (I'm a bipolar II) so feel like it's not as effective as it should be. Is this as good as it gets?
I also take Effexor XR 75 mg and Risperdal 4 mg.

you should absolutely get a test about 4 weeks after starting depakote and then check with your dr. once it's stabilized, it's still a test every six months.
if 1000 mg isn't doing it, don't give up. a higher dose or an adjunct med might do it.
if your dr. has been remiss in ordering this test, i'd question their reliability - it's very important.
