Is there some reason why I shouldn't be taking Welburtin and Buspar together. I've done so before, but after I moved, a p-dr (w/o seeing me)said there is no reason to take Wellbutrin as it is 'virtually identical' with Buspar.
I did get a personal meeting next week with him/her (Donno ...I've moved to a foreign country and things are done differently here) and I'm not sure what I should tell Dr.
Thanx, Tap

Wellbutrin in NOT virtually identical with Buspar - far from it. A very uninformed doctor, this man sounds to be. Another person on this board has made an excellent reference site with a listing of pyschotropic medications that you might want to refer to & mention the difference to your doctor.

Wellbutrin is known as amfebutamone or bupropion, & Buspar is buspirone.

BTW, if that is really what your pdoc thinks, he is an idiot (IMO).

I guess he's not too well informed about Wellbutrin. In Sweden Wellbutrin is only sold as Zyban for those who wish to quit smoking.
As for the rest, the way things are done here is that your family doc writes you a SSRI, and if that won't work, well, tough! I have been working hard since December to get a referral to a p-doc. I won't be able to see one w/o a referral, and I am stick to one assigned to me.
I've talked to some people here, who have given up medicines after one initial attempt with Zoloft. (What are the odds that that would actually work!!)
This is as far from New York and seeing my p-doc every other week as one can get. I've never liked the idea of self-prescribed medication, or hittin web-docs for meds, but I don't think I have other options. Hate give you guys the load, but I have a feeling I'll be asking a lot of advice on this board.
Thanks for the info...
Tap.

> Tap.That *really* is horrible that good treatment is often based on geographic location. Maybe it might be a good idea to search the internet for a *good* doctor, say someone you can get scripts over the phone or internet from, and go see in person say once a year. (If you can afford it...again I know it is asking a lot.)
Can you go to any neighbouring countries to see a doctor? Can you look into and see if your National Health Service will pay even a bit for something like that? I am going to ask some of my social work friends in GB about the issue. It is your *right* to have access to these perfectly legal medications. It's like being given Penicillin for an infection, and if it doesn't work, being told 'too bad'.
Please keep us posted on your situation..
Best wishes..
Jay

Well, I did get on phone with my general practitian who, not giving me a referral (previous referral bounced) directed me to call the specialist (The same specialist who had bounced the previous referral on grounds that Wellbutrin and Buspar are identical)
Buspiron and Buroprion SOUND the same if one eyes the page hastily - Devil's Advocat.
As my condition includes some irritability, I think I was able to give a remarkable demonstration of it over the phone. For whatever reason, she evidently decided that I a wacky enough to see a p-doc. Good ol'crazy act (And I wasn't acting!)
I had previously called all private pdocs listed, but not one could squeeze in new patients.
Remains to be seen if I get the prescription.
Wish me luck
Tap
