Ask _me_ for good online links to any medical (psychiatric or not) topic. I also do highly specialized research for anyone for free, based on full-text medical journals...

TSA:
I am interested in two things and wonder if you could help. 1. Out of all the meds which are recommended for anxiety/agitated depression? And 2. This question is probably most difficult to find info on: Relationship between meds and the body when excercise is implemented in the treatment program. I ask this because I get agitated and insomnia when I excercise. I believe the culprit to be something to do with the nortryptline I take and am looking for one that doesn't have the same effect. I am open to trying another TCA, but would like to try one of the new meds if possible. My doc says the TCA I take does not affect excercise, but I have heard of others that have had the same problem. Thanks.

This is a generous offer. Are you sure?
My question has to do with Lamictal induced hair loss. I have been taking 200 mc Selenium and 100 mg Zinc (gluconate) as recommended by others on this board. Hair loss continues. Are my dosages optimal? Am I taking the right stuff? Anything else I can do? Thanks in advance to you or anyone else who might respond on this matter.

How about binge eating, excessive crying, lethargy, wishful thoughts of dying cause just can't keep up with this society obsessed with looks, accomplishments, activity, etc??? I hate my life. I'm so down right now and just wish I'd fall asleep and never get up.

That's very generous of you! Which journals do you read?
Here's a question (maybe something for the textbooks rather than a journal, though): are there any bad effects from getting frequent (e.g., daily) intramuscular injections? (I'm thinking about asking my pdoc if I can try injecting at least for my midday dose of Buprenex -- taking it intranasally is a PITA for several reasons.)

Are there any MD's in the Boston area that would consider opiates for treatment resistant depression? I have all the articles and still can't find the doc who will actually do it. THANKS

Hi Elizabeth:
Alittle note about the Buprenex. Patients have to be careful with this crap. First, although perfectly legal for distribution for pain management and depression, it is illegal for doctors to prescribe this drug for detox off of heroin or opiates. Any clinic who is administering this for detox is doing so unlawfully unless they have been issued an Investigational New Drug Certificate. I know that here in PA the DEA and USFD will not issue this permit for use with this drug, but there is atleast one clinic that is using it for detox. However, these dishonest and unethical people are insisting on documentation of pain or depression so that they never have to detox you and extend EVERYBODY'S treatment as one of pain or depression to make money. It is sad!! I know people who are going there thinking that these folks were going to detox them in a maximum time of 6 weeks and nearly 20 weeks later this clinic is still treating them and have increased their amounts of Buprenex and other drugs 2 and 3 times the initial dose. People WATCH OUT for these types of SCAMS!!! Unfortunately the DEA has little recourse without ample reasons to request records or shut them down.
Thanks
sally

Hi. I'm not taking the Buprenex in an addiction program or clinic; I'm seeing a psychiatrist for depression, and she prescribes it. I've never been addicted to drugs.
If you're not satisfied with how your treatment has been going, I suggest taking that up with your doctor -- and let other people decide what they want to do if they have a problem with theirs! (And leave the law enforcement to the appropriate state and federal regulatory agencies.)

Elizabeth:
Unfortunately that is why these clinics are getting away with these type practices, because of people like you that think "let the other guy deal with it"! If it weren't for people like me and about another 100 that the DEA told me has come forth to make similar complaints about the same clinic, the DEA and FDA would never know!! How do you think the DEA builds a case against a doctor or clinic that is operating illegally or dishonestly? Not because people sit back and do nothing or hope the proper authorities handle it!! That's a big cop out!!! Because people like me and the other 100 who have complained, get involved, changes will be made and caution taken when Buprenex is finally approved for use in detoxification!!!!! Why should these people be allowed to offer an illegal detox? As if you stated, you question whether it is illegal or unethical, well call the DEA, they will tell you!!! To promise people a detox service using a drug that is not approved or allowed by the FDA is ILLEGAL!!! Furthermore, to do so without following THEIR OWN promised programs and protocals is UNETHICAL!!!
I just thank the Lord for people like me and the 100 who have the motivation, intelligence and backbone to say something to the proper authorities. There will be many individuals and families spared the financial expense and emotional hurt that is being created by the mishandling of patients by this clinic.
