St. Johns Wort

Posted by optimistic on June 8, 2002, at 18:10:00

After many unsuccessful episodes with many of the traditional AD's I stopped them altogether about two months ago. My depression and anxiety are still present so I decided to try SJW. I started taking it 2 days ago and now I feel very "hyped up", stimulated and irritable. Does this mean it may be working and I should hang in with it in the hope that this subsides or is it a bad sign??I am only taking 600 mg to start and thought I would work up to 900 mg.
Any suggestions or thoughts would be appreciated.

I tried the "Kira" brand. Probably the more reputable.

I had no side effects and was a responder at 1800 mg/day.

Seems I hear a lot of people get a response at a much stronger
dose than 900 mg/day for more severe depression.

The medication pooped out on me, and when I stopped it without
tapering I had panic attacks (it should be tapered just like any AD).

The fact that you think it is giving you side effects probably isn't
an indicator that it will/won't work.

Good Luck
John

Hey, what went wrong with your other AD trials?
Bad side effects? They never worked? They were erratic?
etc..

What is your diagnosis?

John

I am using the Kira brand also. The other AD's were either ineffective and/or had bad side effects. Dx- Depression

I used Nature's Resource brand. In at least one test, it did well against Kira, and it costs a lot less. See: http://www.hypericum.com/articles/Testingpills.htm
Alas, SJW did not work against my (major) depression when I tried it, but it is definitely worth trying.
