I am 21 years old and I started taking Effexor XR about 6 weeks ago. I am currently taking 300mg. I have been diagnosed with severe depression and it is the only dosage that seems to work. But I have noticed my hair falling OUT!! Not to the point of baldness, but massively thinning. This really bothers me as a woman, especially since I used to have very thick hair. Has anyone else had this side effect? It has come to the point of where I don't want to take Effexor XR anymore, but the results for my depression have been wonderful! What should I do?

I have had my thyroid checked, b/c I have lost 30lbs. since Aug. and they were worried about that. So it is definity not hypothryroidism causing the hairloss. I'm still at a loss about this?

Hair loss is one of the 'rare' side effects list for Effexor. Probably worth talking to the pdoc about.

Rare: Abnormal speech, bleeding / irritated gums, chest pain, dry skin, ear pain, hair loss, excessive salivation, migraines, seizures, sensitivity to sun, soft stools, stomach irritation, suicide attempts, taste disorders, tongue discoloring, thyroid changes, or problems with vision.
