SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME!!

Posted by Haley on May 22, 2002, at 11:06:16

I need help! I was on effexor for depression and severe anxiety and made me too tried and made my heart race.I was on that since December.I went off last week, and started Prozac this past Saturday. I'm starting to feel anxious again (not too bad) and very depressed! Should I stick it out? Will the Prozac work after awhile? Has anyone had the same experience?

Prozac never worked for me. It made me much worse. Risperdal was the first med to work for me and my depression. Hang in there. Mimi

Did you stop taking the Effexor all at once, or slowly taper off?

If you need help right away, before
your doctor figures out your response
to this drug, ask him or her for temporary
benzodiazepine treatment. It's a band-aid
but it should at least alleviate your
distress until the problem is fixed.

just my 2 cents;

Hi,

One thing that might be going on is the effexor might have been doing at least a little something but it takes prozac at least several weeks to even start. So you're pretty unmedicated really, right now. Your brain was used to at least a little effexor and now there's none. Even if you don't feel like its a rebound, there is probably a little withdrawal there.

The prozac has a really good chance of working, but it does take time. Feels like forever to wait when you're depressed, (I know).

Prozac worked for my depression (was better than paxil or zoloft or any of about 5 others for me). I got energetic and pretty happy and able to deal with negative things and less anxious after about 6 weeks. I could feel something was starting to help after about 2-3 weeks.

Don't hesitate to call them and say how depressed you feel, whether or not you want something else or whether or not you think you can tough it out. They should know.

kate
