effexor er

Help. I am trying to stop taking effexor ER. I feel so bad. I am dizzy, my hands and feet are so swollen and I am very agitated. When does it stop? Is it better to stop completely or decrease meds. I am currently taking 225. Is weight gain common with this drug? I have gained at least 20 lbs. This really helps other issues. Please let me know.

thanks...

You need to decrease slowly, ideally under a doctor's supervision. At this dosage, do not stop completely at once, it would make you feel very sick.

Some meds can help with side effects of tapering off - talk to your doctor about it (Benadryl, Prozac). Also, you may need to replace Effexor XR with something else for depression or anxiety.

If the weight gain is the only problem, you could augment it qith Wellbutrin SR, which couteracts this side effect. Again, talk to your doctor about it, he's the best person to help you with this.

Good luck !

Mitzy,

Please taper off effexor slowly. You'll be fine just talk to your doctor about decreasing it.
