> rossHey Ross,
I can help. Get back on nardil now. It was working for you and you just needed to give you body some time to adjust over the next few months. The sexual problem should allievate to some degree by then.
Don't come off a medication that is finally working for you. From what I recall, you had been through most of the traditional medications without success and that nardil allowed you to get out of the hospital.
Hang it there. Be patient.

If I may add my two cents. I have been through a lot of antidepressants that didn't work. However, I never gave them enough time to actually know if they would really work, like you,
due to side effects. But I was taught that the side effects do dissipate with time or greatly diminish. Now, whenever I have a new drug, I give it at least two to three months to work and I try to take it at around the same time everyday and never skip a day. Be very consistent when taking your meds. It just makes for a smoother transition. Good Luck to you and keep us posted. Nardil may be the next drug for me.

Ross,
I thought the Nardil was working for you? Was it not working enough for you to be able to put up with the Sexual side effects?

Ross, Did you just stop on your own? You really need to get your depression under control and worry about cheese later. How many clinically depressed people are out getting laid?
I haven't read your posts but from what others say, you need to see your doc.
Just my opinion.

hmmm... Phil, are you saying we should all just get laid??? ;) Now, if it weren't for that damn social phobia...
In all seriousness, Ross, don't stop Nardil without talking to your doc (if that's what you've done). If you finally found something that works, who knows how well it will work after eight or twelve weeks! Or even later, and from what I've been told the sexual dysfunction can improve over time. Why not talk to your doc about working on a strategy to combat the sexual difficulties?
Hang in there and be smart,
Jon

I want to say that I sympathize and understand. I find the sexual side effects unbearable and I have been in Ross' place, at the point of choosing depression over sexual numbing. I have seen people on this board assert that you're not really depressed if you'd even consider that. I don't agree.
That said. I would argue for sticking with the Nardil for a bit. I believe it's easier to switch meds from a place of health. In my experience, some meds that might not pull you out of the depths will work for maintenance.
I don't know where you live, but maybe it's time to look into foreign drugs. Find a doc who is open to that. I did it with meclobomide. Unfortunately it wasn't a good AD for me. But there are other things out there. Why not stay on Nardil and do research?
