I'm no on 10mg of Zyprexa, having no been on it for 6 months, but only 2 months at 10mg.. I sleep at least 14 hours a day on it... 12 hours at night then a hour snooze in the afternoon.. problem is, Zyprexa has *really* helped the suicidal rumination and thoughts (it as basically all I thought asbout pre-zyprexa)... I've been told geoden is better but its not yet available in the UK...

The first night I took Zyprexa I fell so soundly asleep that a friend who called during the night
thought I was drunk because I was slurring my words and didn't remember our conversation the next day.I still sleep soundly on Zyprexa, and will sleep for 11 hours if I can, but I'm not completely knocked out and waking up has gotten easier, though I do sleep through my alarm sometimes which I never did before.

Zyprexa also makes me sleep GREAT but the weight gain is such a drag. I've (without my doc's knowledge - she's on vacation) stopped it and returned to restoryl... So long as I take responsibility for the resulting mood problems... Maybe not the smartest move on my part but I'm going to give it a go anyway and see what happens...

Zyprexa 20mg made me sleep too much. I had to switch back to 7mg respirodone which was far less sedative for me. However the extrapyramidal side effects from respirodone were far worse than Zyprexa. Zyprexa also had a depressive effect and the respirodone sorted that.

I just started on Zyprexa in combination with my doses of benzos, partly to deal with an astronomically stressful medical situation that's been plopped on top of my previous psych. problems.
Anyway, it makes me sleep about ten hours (I'm thinking about cutting down on Ambien while I'm on this), and leaves me *groggy* in the morning. Once I get up I feel much better but this process takes about an hour, plus some caffeine that probably isn't good for me with all the anxiety.
I read another thread about zyprexa that recommends people with depression *not* take the med, but my case is possibly bipolar. (They're not sure.) I'm also taking only 2.5 mg. My doctor told me that the grogginess / sleepiness should abate after about a week.
Oh, one last note, re: weight gain. I've got a terribly high metabolism and have always been quite slim. With the anxiety problems I've been having lately, I haven't been able to eat much at all, and I quickly lost ten pounds in little over a week. So the appetite returning a little bit on this low dose of Zyprexa is an *excellent* side effect for me -- I think it'll help me get better, because I was really starting to become unhealthily underweight.
I hope that wasn't too long and rambling -- this is my first time posting to this board. I guess my answer to the OP is that I, too, am hoping some of the sleepiness will go away!
Best to all,
Allie

2.5 mg per night is unlikely to make you depressed. Alot of the depression caused by Zyprexa is that at high doses the side effects can be troublesome and constant drowsiness make life hard. The sedative effect lessons after a month or so. Bye

I know everyone one is different so I'll just say what happened to me. I took a 10 mg pill of Zyprexa every night at bedtime. I slept about 11 hours and did good for a few hours after waking. But within 3 hours I was ready for a nap. I felt fine afterwards but was ready for bed by 8:30. I absolutely hated this and quit after taking it a couple of months. I have 3 small kids and too much to do to sleep my life away. I also gained 20 lbs. the first week on it and steadily gained more daily. These side effects were simply not options for me.
