Miserable trapped feeling

Posted by chiron on April 23, 2002, at 15:02:09

There are times during the following:

At work at a desk, in a car as a passenger, sitting in class, in a social situation; that I feel miserable/heightened nerves and want to get the hell out, but feel trapped.

Any others? What drugs help?
What's a good profession to avoid being "trapped?" In my head I feel ambitious, but my reality is too agitated & depressed.

I feel this way too at times. I don't know what the answer is. I hate it when I'm expected to sit in one spot for any period of time. It drives me crazy. I can do it if it's my choice, but not if I'm supposed to do it, such as to appear that I'm hard at work at my desk when I can't even concentrate. I have thought of going into a type of work where I can move around freely, but I don't know what, that would suit me otherwise.

Do you think it could be something like claustrophobia?

chiron:

i have felt this. i am bipolar. i have a feeling a lot of mental disorders create this feeling at times.

i think mist hit it on the head - we need more control over our schedules than others do. if i know i can get away from something for a little while, it helps immensely. if i know i can hide in the closet all day occasionally, it helps immensely.

i don't know what you "have" - do you have a dr. yet to help with this?

as a bipolar, depakote has helped me, but it's all so complicated... and i still get these feelings time to time. sometimes i leave the grocery store as soon as i get in b/c it freaks me out.

Kat --
This is off the subject, but I was wondering if you are still thinking of the pregnancy thing? I remember you were going off a med in order to try ...

I just went off Lamictal in order to try to get pregnant. I didn't think the Lamictal was helping me too much, but now I KNOW it was helping some because I am a big mess.

I was wondering if you learned about mood stabilizers and pregnancy -- is depakote a better option than Lamictal? How are you doing on Depakote? My pdoc wants to try it ...

Hope this all isn't too personal. Thanks --
cindy
