Hi Mat,
my trial on rebox i think it's going currently pretty well.
Going up to 8 mg/d all side effects faded in the most part of them.
Palpitation and anxiety have totally disappeared.
Insomnia faded and i can sleep as usual (normally i have however a little problems to fall asleep and i am used to have xlow dosage of bdz).
Urinating problems do not exixt anymore.
NO sexual problems: no reduced libido (i dare to say it could be even increased a little!), but i must say that i have noticed a little reduction in the time to complete a sexual relation.
No arousal (erections) problems.
I feel pretty more attentive and alert, my mood seems to be a little enhanced.
At today i've not yet felt a great antidepressive effect, but i think i must wait the usual month of trial before taking conclusion on it antidepressants propriety like other ADs.
Let me know something about your trial.

(i am going to start it next week, after my next pdoc-visit).are you feeling allright? any news about side-effects?Mat, sorry for butting in, thought you might like as much info as poss. When I started reboxetine [I was on Trimipramine at the time, and continued to take it], I had a real down-turn in my thinking. I couldn't stop thinking about suicide for about 2 weeks. The good news is that it just stopped, as suddenly as it started and has not come back in the 9 or so months I've been on it. I'm currently doing ok on reboxetine&wellbutrin. Physical side effects for me from the rebox are constipation, increased sweating and some headaches. Unpleasant but beats the living shit out of being badly depressed.
HTH,
pete.

hi JGm:
in your post from april,13th you mentioned an activating effect, and that rebox would enhance your ability to focus on things. is this effect still there, and-how do you recognize this property of rebox.pete-i had a similar experience recently with another ad-milnacipran. but i stopped taking it from one day to another.
your side-effect profile sounds not harmless but tolerable. what about sexual dysfunctions (sorry for me being so direct, but getting a "pharmacological kick" in my .... is my greatest fear with all the ad's).thanks so much for your answers

Hi Mat,
I got very bad news.
At the beginning i must remember you that every one is different about side effests of therapyes.
Where i found side effects, you could have great results, but you know it as you read this board!
After 1 month about of rebox trial i can say that i continue to have mood improvement and i am more active and bright.
The bad news is that, as i have enhance my sex desire (libido), i have noticed during last week that i have became totally impotent (NO erection at all, in any case and in any where!)
This fact made me completely terrified, even if i know that it should pass after stopping reboxetine.
I have immediately stopped the trial cause i think that impotence if worse than any depression.
Now i'm waiting.........that something happends!
But i'm scared!
I repeat: this is a side effect happend to me, it is not sure that i could happend to you too, if you begin you rebox trial.
I will let you know somenting......while i'm praying....

Hi JGm, that is indeed a distressing side effect. Thinking logically though, I'm pretty sure that reboxetine wouldn't have been approved if it caused permanent sexual dysfunction. You're right to point out that YMMV - I've not had any similar problems of note.
BTW I disagree that impotence is worse than any depression - I'd far rather be impotent than severely depressed all my life.
Anyway, good luck with recovering your, errr, how should I put it: "zing" and coming off rebox.
Cheers,
pete

> ByeFriends,
Someone taking Reboxetine found that augmentation with the medicine "Flomax", an alpha-1 receptor noradrenergic blocker, alleviated urinary hesitation and erectile dysfunction.
If you look for medicines that treat Bengign Prostatic Hyperplasia, a lot of them block the alpha-1 noradrenaline receptor.
Reboxetine is a noradrenaline reuptake inhibitor, it may be hitting that "alpha-1" receptor too hard...a guess.
Checkout Flomax, there may be other meds in the same class. (Search for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia).

I had that same "problem" from desipramine, which has very similar NE reuptake properties to reboxetine.
Effexor also caused the same thing.
I was also worried when this side effect persisted after I stopped desipramine, wondering if I had permanently screwed things up, but it went away completely, very gradually over a few weeks time.

My pdoc told me that this is a known side effect of rebox and seems to be what is keeping drug companies from marketing/approving it in the US. He called it the 'cold water effect'. Even being female I want to stay away from it.
Surely though it must as others say be a clear enough effect that an antidote could be found to take on at least an occasional basis.

hi JGm-
that's indeed bad news. i hope everything will be allright soon. but what happened to you is exactly what i fear most. as i already mentioned, i was extremely sensitive to the (sexual) side-effects with the other meds.
concerning my rebox-trial: my pdoc and i, we together decided that i won't start the rebox now, because it seems my mood has stabilized in the last two or three weeks, after i stopped this terrible milnacipran. and-my relation cannot accept another period of sexual abstinence. of course, it's possible to try to combat the sexual-side effects with still another med, but then i'm into this "circulus vitiosus" that i always wanted to avoid.
i hope your impotence will vanish in the near future, and i hope we will stay in contact. i really appreciated you letting me know about your trial.
take care

Small study on Tamsulosin (Flomax) for Reboxetine:http://www.reboxetine.com/tamsulosin.html
I say if Rebox is a hit for you except for urinary hesitation/
erectile dysfunction, TRY the Flomax add-on.Yes, its 1 more drug. But the search for an AD with
no side effects is tough, and if you love Reboxetine
why give up on it?Regards,

hi-
are you sure its possible to use tamsulosine for the reboxetine-associated erectile dysfunction. i think it's "only" useful for the urinary hesitancy.
also-in goodman and gilmans pharma-textbook, i could find the following note: "abnormal ejaculation is an adverse effect of tamsulosine".

I'm sorry to hear about that side effect.
I am a female, and I was taking reboxetine (8mg/day) for a month to treat my OCD, depression, and anxiety. I found that it IMMEDIATLELY (the day after I took it) started to help my depression -- though the main antidepressive weeks did not kick in until two more weeks into my treatment.
I had almost NO side effects! (And I have taken Prozac/fluoxetine, Effexor/venlafaxine, and Remeron/mirtazapine, all of which I found had unpleasant side effects -- especially loss of libido and inability to orgasm, with the first two drugs) I was THRILLED to have no negative sexual effects for once, and in fact my libido was slightly increased (which was fine with me!).
I did experience this weird sneezing thing -- almost like mild allergic symptoms -- which started a few weeks into treatment, and disappeared after I went off the rebexetine. It was slightly annoying, but not terribly bothersome.
I'm now on tianeptine but as I've waited a month with no positive effects (NOTHING in fact...sometimes I wonder if they are sugar pills), I am going off it...what to try next?

Hi mat! glad for your answer!
How are you? some interesting news about you?
I hope everything is gonna very vell for you!
I got a question for you: if i remember well, you live in Austria, isn't true? If it isn't, please forget the following message, and thanx again for your attention!
So, if it is: my doc would like to put me on Nardil or Parnate Imao for my athipical dep, but unfortunely here in Italy it isn't available like every other Imao. But, as i live about 150 km from Austrian border, and i could easily reach it, I wonder if it could be available in Austrian pharmacies!
I try to find out this information on the web but i got no one result, even because i know very bad deutsch language!
Have any info about it? Don't you know if in yours pharmacies it is available?
Could you reach this info for me?
Tanx you very much for you help!!

hi JG max
it's also a pleasure for me to write to yo again, i just recognized that it's been mor than a year since i posted the first message of this thread-unbelievable.
there are no really exciting or intersting news about me. i had a couple of good episodes last year, fortunately passed a few exams, but also was depressed several times, mostly for only one or two weeks. but-i haven't used an antidepressant since my terrible experience with milnacipran last year (that was a few weeks before i wanted to start the rebox-trial).
concerning your question: unfortunately, neither phenelzin nor tranylcypromin are approved in austria. the only MAOI that is available here is moclobemid (aurorix). i retrieved this info from the 2003-edition of the so-called "austria-codex", the official drug list.
how were things going during last year? any other ad's tried after you stopped rebox?
bye

Hi Mat!
1000 thanx for you helpful (even not luky) information!
I spoke with my doc, few months ago, about Aurorix, but he said that it was not as effective as other Imao, cause it is a reversable-Imao not a pure imao like Phenelzine. He said that he try it many times without a proved efficacy, so he didn't prescribed it to me.
Currently i am not on anyone Ad. I passed a bad winter, in particular the first months of the new year, with many depressive episodes. Unfortunely i realized that i have became more sensitive to the side effects of AD. An example is reboxetine that once didn't gave me dizzyness or drowsiness, even if sexual disease.
I have recently tried to take 2 mg of it and i became within 1 hour completely drunk, absolutely out of mind!
Same thing on SSRI, with exception of efexor that i can tolerate even not effective for me: it can give to me 1 day of relief during a dep crisis, but it seems not to work for a complete therapy for me.
I will wait that Escitalopram will be on the market in Italy, hope within few months, as producer said.
I've read also that a new SNRI (like rebox) will be on the market during this year, but i can't remember the name of it!
So.....I wait!
Mat, thanxs again, if will have any info that you consider important, please share it with me. I have a daily look to the board even not always posting.
I wish for your life and your therapy all the best!
Ciao, see you soon!
JG max
