Dave,

SAM-e loosens my stool somewhat, but it has not caused diarhea nor gas. For me, taking 200 mg/day of SAM-e is comparable to about 1/2 cup of prunes per day in this regard. Further, this side effect has remained constant during the five plus months that I have taken SAM-e. In other words, it did not go away.

How much SAM-e are you taking? Other than the gas and diarhea, what do you think of the way SAM-e makes you feel? What motivated you to try it?

Ron, I am on day 6 of taking 400mg/day of SAM-e. Maybe i should have started at 200mg. Apart from that problem (which do seem to be getting better)I cant really say I have noticed a much in the way of effects, good or bad. Maybe too soon to tell?

What motivated me to try it? My seemingly never ending quest to find something that works without too much in the way of adverse effects. In the past I have been on Zoloft, Effexor, Wellbutrin, Remeron and Serzone. My p-doc currently has me on notryptiline, Celexa and Wellbutrin. The nortryptiline is bad news for me and i am going to have to get off it, the Celexa gives me a partial response but i really need to increase my dose, but which kills off my sex life.
The Wellbutrin was added again in hopes of mediating the adverse effects of the Nortryptilne and Celexa. A few people have reported good luck with sam-e so i thought i wuold give it a try. You have been taking for more than 5 months so it must be working for you, right? How long untill you noticed benefits?

Dave,

Yes, SAM-e is working well for me. Recently I've been experiencing some irritability (flash rage) symptoms that I suspect are attributable to too much SAM-e. But, overall, SAM-e saved my life. For me, the beneficial effects of SAM-e began almost immediately (i.e. within the first few days). I will get this irritability problem figured out. Best wishes in your endeavors!

Dave,
I'm on 1200 mg/d of Sam-e, and few weeks ago i was on 1600 mg/d for 15 days.
Never had any side effects at all from Sam-e.
Even if everyone is different, I think that your dosage is pretty low to give you any side effects. Could it depend from another med you are takeing?
Best luck!

Thanks, i guess it must have been a coincidence. I must have gotten sick and was blamming it on the sam-e since it coincided with my start of sam-e. Anyway it has gone completely away.

Unfortunatly it doesn't seem to be doing anything for me. I guess i will have to try increasing the dose. Though it will cost a fortune at 1200 or 1600mg per day. When did you start to notice a benefit?
