HI-- Currently got prescribed dextrostat "generic dexedrine". 5mgs--3 times a day-- I forgot to tell pdoc I wanted brandname:(. Would appreciate anyone's experience comparing the two " the generic vs. brandname". Typically I don't give 2 hoots whether it's brand or generic but I've heard many mention that ritalin generic for instance simply isn't as effective as the brandname. The brandname dexedrine 5 mg tablets that I've used in past were very smooth and effective. Today since I've tried the generic dexedrine dextrostat I feel a bit uncomfortable...................................................................................................................................................Would appreciate anyone that might have a thought about my concern!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanx -- Awful hot out today isn't it:(:( .

Hi Dennison,
Here's just a thought, for whatever it's worth. . .Perhaps you should just try the generic and see how you like it. Then, next time you get an rx for Dexedrine, ask your doctor to make the rx out for the proprietary/name brand Dexedrine (in the state where I live, the doctor has to write "Dispense as written," or else the pharmacist is required to fill it generically). That way you can compare. You might do very well on the Dextrostat, and if that's the case, you'll save a lot of money.
Yes, it's very hot, but I'm so glad it's spring!

Hi again.
Sorry, I just re-read your post, and I see that you DID try the brand name Dexedrine. Well, why don't you give the Dextrostat a few more days, and then if you don't like it, ask your doctor about switching back? Sorry I didn't read that carefully. I have my laundry in the machine in the basement of my building, and I'm trying to do too many things at once this evening! Maybe the humidity is affecting my brain.

> HI-- Currently got prescribed dextrostat "generic dexedrine". 5mgs--3 times a day--Actually, Dextrostat is another brand name of Dextroamphetamine made by Shire. So yeah, you're not getting brand name Dexedrine, but you are getting brand name d-amphetamine. I was on the generic, and it just said "dextroamphetamine" on the script, 10mg pills, made by Baer (sp?), a company that makes generic drugs.

Do you know what bothers me about this posting? The fact that Dexedrine is a drug that has been around since the 1920s and the name of which is the proprietary copyright of Smith, Kline and French, has far outdated it's patent-status, yet is still so expensive?
Why?
Why is this "old rememdy" so Goddamn expensive when it's the easiest stuff to make at a fraction of a penny per tablet or capsule, with the patent running out decades ago, yet so very expensive?

when i was on generic ritalin sr (currently taking concerta & thankfully there is no generic - yet) every batch was different. from one month to the next my response would change... the first time it happened i thought it was me - that it wasn't working anymore - then i filled a new presciption and lo & behold - i was fine againi do understand, however, that there are certain drug companies whose generics are much cleaner and consistent than others. the trouble is finding out who they are and then getting your pharmacy to use them. my insurance will only pay for generic brands.
i've had the same experiences with generic pain killers, anti-inflammatories, and diet pills (that was years ago)
I HATE GENERICS
just my 2¢
good luck,
v
