Hi
I have been on prozac and wellbutrin for about 4 years. In January, I started also taking Adderall. I initially had a good reaction...but then nothing. So I was switched over to Dexedrine. It does NOT kill my appetite, though. But it does kill my sex drive. Anybody else have similar symptoms?
Thanks

All pstims make me eat more. I first noticed this years ago when I started Ritalin. But I get the same thing on Adderall and Dexedrine. I always thought it was odd, because they are supposed to curb your appetite.
But for me, pstims really increase my appetite for food, sex, fun, work, everything. That is their primary effect for me, even more than increasing energy.
Also, the jitteriness or nervousness from pstims (especially when you first start them) can make you eat more if you eat when you are nervous (I do).So I think eating more on stimulants is a combination of both restoring of desires that were too feeble to cause action before and also a bit of comfort eating.
YMMV

Thanks for your input. Unfortunately for me I also suffer from an eating disorder so the "increase in appetite" scares the <bleep> out of me. Do you know anything about Cylert? Does it have the same effects?
Thanks

What eating disorder do you suffer from?
I've never tried Cylert, but Provigil did not make me eat more. But it didn’t work for me either.
What are you treating with the stimulants?
P.S. I thought have an eating disorder was a reason not to take Wellbutrin.

You know I just have recently heard about that Welbutrin/eating disorder "problem." I don't know, the Wellbutrin seems (or seemed) to work for me, initially.
My pdr. suspects that I may be add/adhd. We're experimenting at this time. The psychostimulants seem to help with the concentration, focus, etc. at first but I seem to get a tolerance to them real fast.
And, as mentioned earlier, it makes me overeat.
Oh yeah, I mainly suffer from Bulimia and I compulsively over exercise (to "purge" the food).

> TbI have pretty much lost my appetite on dexedrine, which for now is fine because I gained about 20 pounds on prozac. I tried concerta for a short time though and it tended to make me feel a little anxious. My response to feeling is anxious is to eat, which is what I did so I guess everyone's different.

NO!
You are not the only one! I have recently (sort of) been dx'd w/ADD, on top of refractory depression complicated by lethargic anxiety. I've tried ssri's, snri's, benzos, beta-blocker (Inderal), buproprion, etc.
I had a sneaking suspicion I might have ADD and my current therapist and p-doc dx'd me as such.
Hooray! The only drug that ever really helped my dep. was phentermine, which I took at a diet clinic a few yrs. ago.
So, I am now on Effexor, high dose Adderall or dex (we're trying them out for individual efficacy) klonopin (clonazepam) 2mgs daily & inderal. My appetite has not been this stimulated since I took Remeron 2 yrs. ago! Maybe it's the Eff doing it, don't know. But I have gained 10 lbs and only want fruit (sweet & juicy, for dry mouth) and vanilla icecream with hot fudge sauce. And lots of diet doke and 7-up. Plus water a couple times a day. What is happening???
