Do y'all have medical , science, tech backgrounds?

Posted by Janelle on March 23, 2002, at 21:22:26

I am simply amazed and in awe of the knowledge that has been passed on to me from people who post on this board, explained directly in a thread or referred to in links (many of which I cannot comprehend they are so technical/scientific).

So, I'm really wondering if many people on here have medical, scientific or technical backgrounds?? I ask because you're able to either rattle this stuff off directly on here or provide a link to a site whose contents often fly right over my head.

I must be the dumbest one on here.

Give yourself some time... A lot of us have had to deal with this stuff for a long time. In a few months you will either be well versed in the basics of neuroscience, or "cured" -- in which case, you won't need to care about any of it.

I have a B.A. in philosophy.

My fiancée (now wife) asked me, "so, exactly how much money do philosophers make anyway?" Needless to say, I didn't go to grad school and get my PhD in Philosophy.

Like christophrejmc said, you just pick the technical stuff about the meds over time - or you get "cured" and don't care about it anymore.

All I have education wise is a BA degree...liberal arts degree. As far as my knowledge concerning mood disorders, psychiatry, psychopharmacology and ECT its all learned the hard way. Thru the school of hard knocks. Personal experience, much of it negative, along with lots of reading on my own time, self education its called. I ask my doctors a lot of questions. If you read a lot, youd be surprised what you can learn.

My background is, abused as child, abused as spouse, raised two happy, sane adults--and came close to starting a therapy practice.

Then it dawned on me: I didn't want to listen to other people all day--I wanted to *tell* them how they screwed up! So I became a novelist instead. <APA sigh of relief>

Are you really a novelist?! If so, have you published any books, and if you have, what kind?

Yes, Bekka, I really am. No, I've been too sick and too ADD to ever get the whole MS together, tho published a few chapters, looong ago. Finally hired a coach/assistant. I'll let you know when it gets bought up and out! Second book is going up on my website soon, in pieces, kinda as I work on it. This is supposed to help me keep my focus. I guess it will, as that's where I am all the time, on the web, a.k.a. ADD heaven.

Thanks for asking! Do you write? Is this gonna get a Redirect?
