You all know what I mean!!!! Does the tingling, the pins and needles ever go away? 20 minutes after I take my dose.....it starts!!! I sometimes feel like I could walk up to perfect strangers and ask them if they will rub my fingers and toes
because they go so numb!!!! My Dr. warned me about this but is anyone else experiencing this?
I've been on the topamax 5 weeks....I am up to 150mg daily. Thanks...and I am praying for all of us....

hey, helloieeeeeees
i totally empathize!!! I was on topamax from april to november of last year... starting from 75mg gradually up to 225mg
the tingling sensations in my appendages, mainly feet, hands and fingers (things that are susceptible to frostbite first) left me feeling sort of "carbonated," with little tiny pins crawling around everywhere, popping like bubbles that pinch at a frenetic pace!??!- oddly enough, the tingling would start whenever I was working out, particularly cardio work outs whenever i was on the eliptical machine or treadmill, go figure. I thought I just had bad circulation because at one point, i was so numb in the hands, the machines couldn't calculate my heart rate.
- since I have discontinued topamax, the tingling sensations have ceased with it.
To me, relative to the other side effects I've experienced with the montage of psychotropics i've been on, I don't think it's a terribly huge thing to be concerned about, but if it persistently affects you in serious ways, mentioning a medication alteration, perhaps lowering your dosage to your pdoc wouldn't hurt.
- the huge side effect I had problems with was the cognitive effects topamax had on me, I felt so ridiculously dumb. Sometimes I feel the impairment has carried over, but that could be the confusion, and racing thoughts associated with mania
-oh yeah, question, has the topamax worked for you? I'm on trileptal now. I need anti-convulsants to protect me from seizures yet, I feel they fail at stabilizing my mood.
take care ;)

I've been on the Topamax medicine for 3 months+, but didn't start to feel this until after I augmented Serzone a few weeks ago . But I took Serzone in the past and never got this numbing crud? hmm maybe a drug interaction.John

Dear Helloiiieees: The topamax is working wonderfully for me....I am only up to 150mg...this is my 5th week....but I am very, very, pleased.....to have been weaned off the lithium. I stil need 100 mg Zoloft or I hit a low....something I had not had on 2 years on the lithium zoloft combo......they tried to wean me off the zoloft, too, but I can't. Hey, the carbonated fingers and toes (GREAT word you used) is the least of my problems....I wouldn't stop over that....Best of luck to you......I do not want to scare you, but I was on 1800mg of trileptal a day and in the 4th week I had a ministroke....could not see from ym right eye, could not move the right side of my face.....spent 5 days in the hsopital and they did every possible test....and decided it was just too much of the medication....maybe too fast....as it left my system, I slowly, and comparably regained my sight and ability to move ym face, to talk, and to walk. I had the neurologist that takes care of Burt Reynolds here in Jupiter FL. so I had the best.. just passing on info.....I found out later that my psychiatrist is also a rep for the manufacturer. Alsao, my neurologist called my psychiatrist and he never once called back the neurologist or came to see me in the hospital. I suppose, this way, he never had to report the incident....or is that the lawyer in me thingking that?
This is the end of the thread.
