Pdoc has upped my Olanzapine (Zyprexa) dose up to 20mg... I asked for some valium to get me through a 12 hour flight (I;m not scared of flying at all.. but totally freak out being in an airplane with no escape or room to move around much). Inormally get valium (Diazepam) from General Practitioner but she's got no appointments.
Anyway, he said that Zyprexa and Valium "don;t work well together" he said it could make me feel quite ill.
Anyone know anything about this??

Hmm, my doc is fine with klonopin and seroquel, which would be very similar (in some ways). the only thing i can imagne being of concern is the compounding of sedation. but this would be a temporary effect. certainly, how these two drugs interact in your own, unique, brain is unkown to medical science until actually done.
why not use xanax which has a short half-life? maybe your doc is a closet benzophobe...

I would agree with the previous post that there exists a compounding sedation affect that you may (or may not) want to avoid. FYI, I was prescribed Zyprexa just barely three and a half weeks ago, starting at 2.5 -> 5mg at bedtime, and it seems to really help; especially in improving other areas beside insomnia (i.e. GAD and ADD). I may mention a dose increase to my psydoc, since it stopped "working" after a week or so. A question: How long have you been taking Zyprexa? Did you start on a low dose at first? In general, for anyone reading this thread, what are your thoughts on Zyprexa? Thanks... <8-]

Hi,
Zyprexa has really helped me but I keep coming off it because it doestn't give me the same feeling as the ADs used to and also I'm worried that it's an antipsychotic drug. It was bad enough having to take ADs but now Anti-Psychotics I'm beginning to wonder, what next? But I would definately recommend Zyprexa as a last resort.

An open question about any drug that is supposedly used as a last resort: Is it a positive or negative indicator in general? The previous thread in this post made me think about this question. Initially, it seemed to connote a negative circumstance, but then I realized that the opposite may be the case. The reason is that much of finding the "right" drug or cocktail is a method of trial and error. What may appear as a last resort might be just the "right" drug for you. If anyone should read this thread, what do you think? Is this a healthy or logical perspective? <8-]
