In reply to Paxil I am new taking it and just wondering..., posted by Darci S on March 7, 2002, at 19:54:36
hello, my pdoc started me on paxil 10mg at bedtime with remeron. Remeron is a good protecter against nausea due to the blockade of 5ht3 receptor. So far so good, but i up to 20mg next week, i do feel a bit constipation, a bit less appetite which is good, becasuse remeron makes you eat like a pig. I wont go above 20mg paxil. im using it for social phobia and mood.
genoi also take klonopin 1mg daily.

SSRIs often have side effects in the beginning that disappear or at least go down after the first couple weeks. Nausea and loss of appetite are typical of that...other people experience insomnia, etc. I don't know about the "being quiet" thing... maybe because of the nausea or because you are listening inside of you more to see what is happening with the med?

I know of someone who had those same reactions to Paxil, including the quietness. Sometimes those things go away with time, but sometimes they don't. If you aren't feeling significantly better after a few weeks on the drug, tell your doctor you want to change. I have been way too patient and compliant with such things in the past (not wanting to be a bother to my doctor, etc.) and have stayed on drugs suffering side effects but no efficacy for much too long.

Good doctors will know augmentation strategies
to help get a response without aborting a medication
trial due to side effects/lack of response. But first
you really want to wait out a few weeks to see if the
side effects subside/response occurs. If they don't
Geno's strategy of adding Remeron (possibly at a high dose)
may substantially alleviate some of the discomfort and
give an additional anti-depressant kick. My feeling is
this is better to do than aborting the medicine all
together and starting over. Just my opinion.good luck
