Ross,
Don't stop now. You need to give nardil more time. Just another 2 or 3 weeks and you are home free. Trust me.
With SSRIs and TCAs, the neurotransmitter reuptake is blocked immediately .... people get a response in 2 to 3 weeks. With MAOI, it takes longer. First, I bet the nardil binds to the all MAO in the gut first before it can bind to brain MAO. This can take some time. Once that occurs, nardil will start working in the brain.
All most everyone I know who responded to nardil says it took about 4 to 6 weeks. And the responds was like a light switch, one day they woke up and the depression was gone. And most responder say that they wanted to give up after about 2 weeks, BUT THEY DIDN'T AND NARDIL WAS THE BEST MEDICATION FOR THEM.
Please don't give up now. Spike4848 would be upset with you.

Ross--Jill's right. I have staying on meds waiting out trials but ShelliR told me that I had to stick with Nardil at least 5 weeks b/c that was when it kicked in for her. She felt nothing before then. Me, I felt wretched for the entire 5 weeks, then like a light bulb it went on. And it worked, (prob. was I'm sensitive to side effects and I had too many to stay with it). Now, I don't think all MAOs are like that. I felt Parnate right away--probably because it is activating. And I felt Moclobemide right away also. But Nardil is just a 5 weeks until lift off drug--so give the trial its full 5 weeks.
Lorraine
Good luck

When you're blocked, you're not supposed to post, so I'm going to extend your block another two weeks.

It's different for different people. I found that Nardil and Parnate both started to work faster than ADs are "supposed" to (it took about 2 weeks for Nardil to start working for me, I think), but for some people, like Lorraine and Shelli, they may take a long time to work. It's worth sticking it out. Don't lose hope -- or keep trying even if you have lost hope.
best,
