Is anyone out there on a stimulant in addition to Celexa? If so, what stimulant? How long have you been on the combo, and what do you think of it? I've tried this several times, and I feel as if the two drugs negate eachother. SSRIs are known to lower dopamine levels, and stimulants can deplete both dopamine (after raising it, initially) and serotonin. I'd like to hear from anyone who is on this combo or who has been on the combo. Thanks.

Hello,I am on Celexa, and was on Ritalin for about a month and a half. I would like to know what you are treating with the combo of the two. I have OCD and ADHD problems. The two of these together did not work well at all. I discontinued the Ritalin. I feel much better off. But, the Ritalin increased my OCD symptoms dramatically. I was not on enough Celexa to take care of the OCD. The stimulant only made me obsess more over the normal, daily obsessions. I would be able to take the 2 together, but only with a low dose of the Ritalin, and a higher dose of the SSRI. Depending on what you are trying to treat, these two types of medication combine very well together though. The basics to dopamine synthesis are getting the brain to produce and manufacture it. Then it won't fluctuate up and down. Vitamin C is a great starting point. L-Tyrosine is also a great addition. As is SAM-E.
Frankie.

ive been on celexa and adderall for about four weeks now in addition to topamax it really its doing wonders...it took a while to find a combo...however...i am playing with the adderall and only taking it when i need it because of some situations..but when i first started taking it i did call the pharmacist and i asked them what was going on and they said that the celexa did have some ingredient in it that knocked up something in the adderall(like all other stimulants) to make it work and i was surprised...but i was really not happy..because i was fainting and breaking out in sweats..but i was on 60mgs of adderall xr and i knocked back down to 30 immediatly...anyway so they dont negate eachother..hope that helped...

> Frankie.Hi Frankie. Thanks for your reply. I have the same conditions as you PLUS depression. I've been feeling that the two drugs negate each other. Celexa is the only SSRI I can combine with a stimulant, yet it makes me apathetic and wimpy even with the stimulant. All the other SSRIs, when combined with a stimulant, give me very high blood pressure and other cardiovascular problems. I have a really hard time with med combos.

Hi Alley. Thank you for your reply. I'm worried about your fainting and breaking out in sweats. Did you have your blood pressure and heart rate checked? Did you tell your doctor about the fainting and sweating? I'm so glad you are doing better.

i did tell my doctor...my parents were worried as anything..my dad wakes up frequently in the middle of the night like me...were both on ambien..but still wake up...anyway..one night he found me on the kitchen floor at the crack of dawn and saw a glass of water on the counter...all i remember was comming out for the water and i guess i didnt get to get it...well they took me to the doctor the next day and i got an ekg and the only abnormalty was that my heart rate was high for a girl my age so but they said that was expected with the meds i was on..but i told them i never had felt this was with any other meds...and they told me it was normal its becuase of the stims..but i reassured them it wasnt..i had been on concerta and ritalin before..and ive been on adderall for more then a month now..and told them that i had just started the xr 60 mg...and thats when things started to click..they explained that they were going to hook me up to a holter monitor for twentyfour hours to monitor my daily routine..and told me to discontinue and go back to just 30 mgs...well i stopped fainting...but my heart was still racing whenever i walked or did anything strenuous...and not to mention light headed...anway all in all..im just playing with the adderall now because my p-doc said it makes me manic..but i do need it at times...but the celexa with the topamax works wonders...just takes time to adjust i guess you can say...as for the bloood pressure..mine was normal they said..but i dunno...my pulse is just really high...im almost 18 and its almost always 120..my dad checks it always for me..cause i feel my heart beating through my chest a lot...i have asthma but so that mitte contribute some too..but im not sure...anyway i hope this helped...and everything is well...thanks...

i was on celexa last summer and i think it helped my mood and negative thinking, but it made me way too sleepy. i slept like 15 hours a day. since school was starting soon, i was put on adderall, and it helped me tremendously. i was not nearly as tired, and it helped my concentration. and i loved how i could go hours and hours without eating anything, and not even thinking about food. unfortunately, my dr. didnt want me on it for the long term bc of its addictive nature, so he took me off both. so that was the end of it. but if you can get a dr. to keep prescribing it to you, i would strongly recommend trying this combination.
