Has anyone made the switch successfully?
I feel pretty good since starting the Fluvoxamine about 8 months ago. However, I have experienced considerable weight-gain and sleepiness. My medication management doc wants to possibly switch me to Effexor to combat both.
I typically suffer from mild OCD, GAD and on-going depression when I am NOT on a med, otherwise, I function pretty well.
Any thoughts? For some reason, the thought of Effexor scares me and I am not sure why.

If you're afraid of totally switching to
Effexor, especially since you've been doing
well on Prozac besides the 2 side effects, one
option you might want to discuss with your doctor
is augmenting the Prozac with a 1/2 dose of a
medicine like Wellbutrin. Maybe 150 mg. This can
help to combat the fatigue and also tends to
fight weight gain. It might be a safer route to
try this first than making a complete med switch
to Effexor. Just a suggestion.good luck.

Thanks, except I don't take prozac; I take the generic of Luvox.
I see my doc next week. I'll ask her, though, about WB and combining.
I think I just may deal with the weight gain/sleepiness. I certainly feel better emotionally!

duh, prozac is fluoxatine. They sound alike.
anyways, I think there may be a drug interactin
with prozac(cyp450-2d6) but not luvox. Check with
your doc. Whats nice about a WB add on is that if
you don't like it you can bail quickly. If you
switch to Effexor its a long involved process.
You seem to have invested a lot in Luvox, you
don't want to give that up so quickly.Good luck,
John
