Right now I take 20mg Adderall in the morning and 10mg in the afternoon. When it poops out at the end of the day, boy do I feel crappy. I feel crappy in betwen doses, too. My doc did mention that there were other stims to try (Desoxyn, Dexadrine, Dexadrine Spansules, Ritilin, and he even mentioned an SR-Adderall). I'm not taking it for depression (I take Serzone for that) but I've noticed the Adderall works better for depression than any antidepresant made (except for the fact that tolorance to the mood lift has kicked in after a couple weeks and the depression is back; still titrating up on the Serzone). Right now, I'm just feeling a lot of peripheral effects (could it be from the l-amphetamine in the mix) and a lot uf "up and down" between doses and at night (very moody and cranky in the evening when I'm "comming down" for the night. Should I ask to try a different pstim like one the one's I've listed above, or are they all as see-saw as the Adderall?
MB
Plus I take 2400mg Neurontin/day and somewhere between 2mg and 2.5mg of Klonopin/day (if that helps with any suggestions). Would Mirapex or l-DOPA keep me from "using up" all my dopamine?

Hope you are doing better. Wow, I noticed they got your Neurontin up there! I would try a flip from the Adderall to Dexedrine. When I was taking Adderall I noticed these "waves" of buzzy energy and calm alertness all day long. I don't know which salt gets released first, but right after I would wake up-I'd get some coffee and then within an hour or so find myself just lounging in the chair with my eyes closed-kinda mellow like. It could be the l-isomer causing the unwanted buzziness.

Personally I would choose Dexedrine over Adderall. I always have had good success with Dexedrine, but a couple years ago I switched to Adderall thinking it would be smoother, etc -- and it was for a couple of weeks then it kinda stopped. I'm not sure how to explain it but Adderall was very "harsh" on my body - bad muscle tension, sweating, headaches and not nearly as beneficial for mood, concentration, etc compared to Dexedrine--for me.
Ritalin has always provided a somewhat more "warm" positive feeling as far as mood goes--but I have always had the worst crashes on ritalin too and the "old" Ritalin never worked long enough--even taking the SR 20mg 4 times a day.
With the Dexedrine I still have problems with muscle tension but the stimulation isn't as intense or "rocky" as it was with Adderall (I was taking 10 mg 3x daily of adderall).
I've also been on Provigil - up to 400mg. Provigil is an interesting medication as far as stimulants go. The first couple days I was very motivated and would get almost hyperfocused on a project or cleaning, etc. For the first couple weeks it also wiped out my appetite. As far as mood went- The Provigil provided a small amount of a boost. For the most part it did what it was deisgned to do - it kept me awake - but it didn't give me a bunch of energy either. As far as side effects I never had any problems with muscle tension, headaches, sweating, etc with the Provigil.
I haven't tried metadate or concerta but I've heard good things about both.
Hope this HelpsJerry

MB, Hi, I just wondered that since you are on a relatively high dose of Neurontin (are you taking 600mg 4x daily or 800mg 3x daily?) which requires frequent dosing... It might just be easier to just take plain dexedrine tabs with your Neurontin doses (except the last one at bedtime). I tried the Spansules *once* when I was a teenager (someone gave me one at school). It caused some GI distress. That's all I can remember.Mitch

> MBYes its actually a little device as big as a tic-tac. It is coated with regular Ritalin on the outside. When you swallow it, that coating is desolved radiply, giving you an initial dose. Then the plastic capsule inside, takes on water as it travels through your gut and via a tiny diaphram it dispenses Ritalin throughout the day. It even boosts the dosage up a bit for the afternoon hours. You eliminate it in the regular way and you'll never be aware of doing so. I find it isn't speedy or as prone to crash as the norm, or even SR. It comes in several doses, something like 18mg, 36 and 52. I can't remember for certain. It works well for me.

Would Mirapex or l-DOPA keep me from "using up" all my dopamine?I'm on wellbutrin for depression and was just diagnosed two days ago with ADD. My doctor told me he prefers the dexedrine spansules so he started me on those. I don't have enough experience with it yet to say I would recommend it or not since I'm on such a low dose (10 mg/day) that I can't even tell I'm taking anything. We're titrating it up by 10 mg each week.

Theoretically, Desoxyn should have the fewest peripheral side effects. (I actually once did some research on this question.) Of course, Desoxyn is the least favorite of most docs since it has a nasty reputation (whether accurate or not) among the authorities for being the most abused of the pstims. I have personal experience using Ritalin and Dexedrine (both of which help tremendously with my comorbid attentional-deficit, but which are very harsh on my mood). But I have no personal experience with Desoxyn to offer, since it's illegal here in Canada.

I am trying to find desoxyn. Abbott labs has reduced to only making 5 mg tablets but it is so hard to get I can't get it when i know I need it and it would help me. Even the 5 mg. Maybe it is being marketed under adifferent name. Anyone know about this?
