I found that all SSRIs cause me to loose sleep. This is, IMO, one of the things that indicates that the right drug/drug combination hasn't been reached, yet. You may need more Celexa to get to the point where you no longer have the 'electric energy' that doesn't allow you to sleep, or you may need to augment it with some other drug.
Look at the response to my recent post "The next Step" to get an idea of the variety of drugs which could be used to augment Celexa.

Last year I started taking Celexa for depression.
I became happier, but I still had a low energy leval. That didn't matter that much at the time.
In the summer I started to go down again and the dose was increased from 20 to 40. On 40mg I became hyper at night, I couldent' get to sleep 'till 2 or later. It was like I was watching someones else's life. It was bad. Then I started Paxil and stopped Celexa.Your milage may vary with Celexa. My father has been helped immensly by it when other drugs didn't work or had bad side effects. Keep this in mind before making your decision.
best of luck to you all,

I do a lot of reading on this stuff and I have not heard of the lawsuits. Considering the large number of people who take the drug, there are bound to be some lawsuits. But it's generally considered to be a very very safe drug. I have been on Celexa for about 2 and a half years and doing very well on it. I used to have severe anxiety and depression. I started on 20 mg and eventually went up to 30, then to 40. Forty is the dose most people take.
When I first started on Celexa, I felt tired for the first couple of months. Then it mostly, but not completely, went away.
A few months from now (Spring 2002) a new and improved version of Celexa will be available. It is called Lexapro. It is made by the same drug company as Celexa. In clinical trials, people had less day time tiredness and less sexual side effects with Lexapro than with Celexa.
Hope this helps.

hi,
i was on paxil last dec. 00', i couldnt believe how well it worked for me (for 4 months) i gained 30 pounds, and wanted off.... i was on it for anxiety, really i thought it was a miracle drug..... until the weight was coming on no matter what i did, so i did without anything from april till this jan. and he gave me wellbutrin im only on it 4wks yesterday,(so im weening off of it in a 10 day plan :) it really didnt touch my anxiety... altho maybe it would have if i waited longer? but i think an ssri will work better, im not a depressed person, but very nervous/anxiety so he switched me to celexa to try, he said hopefully it will cover my ocd, anxiety, pms..... so we'll see.........
are u thinking of going on wellbutrin?
Tammy :)
