Half Life of Xanax?

Posted by Maisy on February 9, 2002, at 19:10:58

How long does xanax stay in your system or better yet, how long is it detected in your urine? I have been applying for jobs that may require drug testing and I would rather not disclose my MDD. But I could really use a xanax now as I have some anxiety building. I only rarely take a 0.25mg a few times a day for a few days to settle things down a bit. I would appreciate any input. Thanks

The mean half life of Xanax is 20 hours.

This question was answered incorrectly by the other person, I believe. I take Xanax, at the dose you do, and I have never experienced, or heard of it's half-life being anymore than 8-10 hours. 10 is the absolute max. But, it is possible that it may remain in the urine for longer. They may be right on that. It's effects are out of the system in about 8 hours though.

Frankie is right 11-12 hours

Frankie is correct...I was looking at those with liver disease..
Scott

Following oral administration, alprazolam is readily absorbed. Peak concentrations in the plasma occur in 1-2 hours following administration. Plasma levels are proportionate to the dose given; over the dose range of 0.5 to 3.0 mg, peak levels of 8.0 to 37 ng/ml were observed. Using a specific assay methodology, the mean plasma elimination half-life of alprazolam has been found to be about 11.2 hours (range: 6.3-26.9 hours) in healthy adults.

Thank you for the responses. Follow up question: Would you happen to know the detection limits of benzos in urine? I am not familiar with the methodology but assume there is a lower detection limit.

I am not sure on this. Mr. Scott would likely know. If not, do a search on Xanax and you will find the info you are looking for.

Frankie.
