Effects of Illness on antidepressants

Posted by hosanna on February 5, 2002, at 13:54:07

I have been taking Serzone with excellent success for almost 4 years. Last week I came down with a full blown case of the flu. I am feeling better physically better but mentally feel very depressed with little energy or appetite. It feels very similar to when I accidentally miss a dose or two of my Serzone. This situation has been going on for about 4 days and I am wondering if this is just a natural response when recovering from the flu while on antidepressants. I take no other meds and am otherwise a very fit and happy 37 year old. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Me Too: Illness + depression

I had a serious flu a couple of weeks ago and still have not completely recovered. I have been taking Prozac + Mirapex and since I had the flu, the meds seem to completely stop working. I have been profoundly fatigued and depressed. Today I'm feeling a little better, but this has been very disconcerting. The flu was of the intestinal variety so I was thinking maybe I stopped absorbing the meds (just a theory). Anyway hopefully I'm heading back to normal.

Wishing you a speedy recovery as well!

Peter

My doctor told me people w/affective disorders tend to stay depressed longer than most after the flu.
