I am diagnosed with primary anxiety problems, including OCD and GAD, but I also have ADHD. Of course the depression problems that often accompany all of these are there most of the time. I am on Ritalin, Celexa, and Buspar. I take a mini dose of Xanax too before bed. Just .25 mg. Just that small dose helps me the most as far as the anxiety. I question the OCD diagnosis. I am obsessive, but only when it comes to appearance based things. (I detest hair and lint on clothing or on my skin. I will pick at it for long periods of time.) I find that increasing the SSRI dose always seems to greatly exuberate the anxiety, and race the hell out of my mind. More so than even the stimulant. I wondered if anyone has a similar problem out there, and if so, are you on something like Klonopin, or Neurontin, to stabalize your mood, and prevent possible slight seizure activity. I feel as though my brain short circuits on these SSRI's. I feel completely nuts the longer they build up in my system, but off them, I start to withdraw, and feel like hell that way too. Anyone feel the vibe out there? Replies appreciated.

F.G.W.:
I have anxiety, obsessive ruminations, depression and so on. I too experience a dichotomous response to SSRIs, although not exactly like yours. I feel like hell off of them, and if I'm on them long enough, I can no longer tolerate them. Dose changes usually result in a marked increase in all my symptoms. However, if I keep it steady state, I eventually end up extremely apathetic and sleep way too much. I tried Depakote, but never with an SSRI. Depakote alone was very fatiguing, and gave me weight gain and sexual dysfunction. Adding an SSRI to that just didn't seem like the thing to do. Many posts here have described just that though - adding a mood stabilizer to an AD.
Sorry that this is probably not of much help to you.

Try adding low dose Risperdal or Zyprexa to the cocktail. It will make you calmer and get you off the OCD.

> F.G.W.Wow, your situation sounds just like mine. I have bipolar II, ADHD, and GAD-ruminating social phobic, panic probs. I am taking Neurontin+Klonopin and Celexa+Wellbutrin right now, all in small doses. I can't take more than about 2-3mg of Celexa a day or I get REAL speedy. Everytime I try to completely ditch an SSRI I start getting this "menacing" anxiety that just increases and increases until I start to panic. But, if I try to take more of one I start to get panicky as well-not to mention hypomania and insomnia and GI distress. The only good thing is that it doesn't cost much :-)

With Exceptions and differences I keep haering that, You, Ritch (AKA Mitch), and I are all very very similar. My guess is we use different names for the same underlying pathology.

I am on Neurontin+Klonopin and a "pinch" of Celexa and Wellbutrin. I can't stand SSRi dosages above absolute minimal. To be honest pretty much all antidepressants are intolerable at usual dosages, but I seem to need them (a little). I would like to drop off the WB and add in a low-dose pstim to the mix (would really like to try 1.25mg of Focalin 2x daily). All I know is that I need 1) Some amt. of some mood stabilizer, 2) A *little* bit of SSri, and 3) A *little* bit of a pstim or stim-like AD for my seasonal depressions.

What makes yous suspect the seizure thing? My doc always says that. And he says that since AD's scratch the seizure threshold i get the same symptoms you describe. He is always trying to get me on the Anticonvulsants even tranxene or klonopin. He wants me take something along those lines.Scott
