Joint Pain from your AD? Blurred Vision

Posted by Joy on January 14, 2002, at 21:44:58

I am up to 60 mgs of Prozac. It seems six weeks ago I started having joint pain in my hands, especially my left hand. I can't even wear the ring I had been wearing for 8 years. I'm thinking it may be the high dose Prozac cause it happened so quickly, not gradually. Also, my vision is blurred sometimes, it can be either eye. I think it is the Prozac. Anybody relate? Any advice?

Yep,

I get increased ankle pain (from an old injury), and increased back pain from Zoloft. Sometimes you may have to put up with particular aches and pains a little more. If you can tolerate and find a TCA effective they tend to reduce pain generally.

I was searching archives and found this and just had to respond. I originally started on 20 mg prozac and did OK. Since it was making me gain weight my doc added wellbutrin and we dropped the prozac to 10 mg. I'm not sure if it was the prozac directly or the combination of the two drugs, but I started having such problems with muscle aches (mostly in my arms) and joint pain in my hands that my regular doctor who didn't realize it was due to the AD sent me for all kinds of blood tests and even an MRI because it thought it could be arthritis or MS. When I went off the prozac completely this allwent away.

I just switched my Prozac to a 40mg, and i have blurred vision close up but not far away...i'm really concerned as this is difficult. I'm in school and i can't read or write anything unless i hold it way away from my face...

Hello AliceKay!

Welcome to Psycho-Babble!

That sounds like an alarming side effect, if it is indeed from the Prozac. It could also be coincidence. I hope you see an optometrist for an eye evaluation. Maybe you need glasses.

Joy -

I get joint pain from certain treatments, and it has definitely gotten worse as my disease has progressed. The more depressed I am, the more pain I have. One of the worst treatments for joint pain was ECT. AAP's in particular caused joint pain also. It seems that often, treatments that lift my spirits lift pain and everything else with them.

I have had multiple sedimentation tests performed to look for arthritis, and lymes disease titers. Doctors (both GP and Psych) are all quite reticent to say it's the treatments. I don't know why, but it is somewhat frustrating.

I've tried painkillers, which do mitigate it somewhat, but often result in deteriorating mood. Besides, do I want to be using painkillers for the rest of my days to cover up some mysterious pain syndrome which is likely being caused by another drug or treatment?
