Bonnie-
I don't know about the studies on this, but personally I have found that stopping your period also stops PMS and doesn't aggravate your everyday
anxiety and depression (as opposed to the high anxiety and depression caused by PMS). So it can be of some help.
If you are interested in doing this with either Norplant or Depro Provera and want to know more about either method, I have tried both with great success but also had a few problems you should know about too. Probably should be posted on PSB.
And NO I don't sell the stuff! Personal experience only.

Bonnie ann,
I don't have a lot of energy to discribe in detail. But there is a new BCP called Yasmin that just came out July 2000 that is completely different from the rest. It has a new progestin (drosperinone) that has some diuretic properties, so it aids in reducing pms fliud retention and irritability. It also does not have any of the androgenic effects like weight gain, hair loss, etc. I believe it is being marketed as BCP that helps with pms, pmdd. This is quite a claim!

I have been on it about 2 months taking active pills only (I have a rather progressive Gyn). And after some break thru bleeding I am period and pms free. This is nice. But unfortunatley did not stop my emotional cycling, like I had hoped. It's not a miracle cure, but it is the only BCP that I have been able to tolerate more than a few days.

Try a WEB search on Google.com and type in Yasmin and depression. It is definitely worth looking into.

Yasmin is supposed to be available in Canada in about a year I believe.
