Hi everyone:
I started on 75mgs of effexor xr for 2 weeks and then to 150mgs of effexor after that,Yes that is high to start with but since I was so seriously depressed the doc figured she would start me high to help it go faster. For the first week it was tough as I was in a deep depression and starting a new drug is always tough, I then went 150mgs which I took in the morning which was on the doctors advice as she said it was an active drug and should be taken in the morning, Well once I was on the second dose I really went into a spin, serious mood swings suicidal anorexic and anxious crying all the time and that went on all day until I couldn't take it anymore, so i took one dose in the morning and one at supper time , well that gave me the day but as soon as i took the second dose i would be off the wall with mood swings, crying suicidal very tired anorexic nausea and anxious. but now that i am into my 4th week I have gotten used to the drug and the mood swings are minimal, I am still depressed but not nearly as bad as I was before I started the drug. I still don't want to leave the house to go out anywhere not even to a friends house, I like my alone time and get real tired just going for a few groceries because of my lack of energy which I really hope comes back soon. I am still not eating hardly anything at all just can't eat because of the nausea I guess but my wonderful caring and supportive husband says he's gonna force feed me soon if I don't start eating someting (hahaha)
The good news is I am alot better now then I was before I started this drug,
I was on Celexa for 2 years when it stopped working for me. I loved that one cause I had no side effects whatsoever, It worked great for me. So the doctor put me on Remeron which was a nighmare for me as I got worse and ended up in hospital, until the doc put me on effexor xr.
I have read alot about effexor on this sight and has helped me alot so I hope I can help out too by adding this post]

Glad to hear you're doing better.
Do you eat when you take the med? It helps to avoid nausea. At least eat then...
And keep taking care of yourself. Tell all your side effects to your doc too.
