Switch to the RIMA moclobemide, whose side-effect profile is comparable to the SSRIs (except for sexual dysfunction. MAOI-type drugs like moclobemide may be superior than other types of antidepressants because MAOIs affect serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine all in the same pill.

Have you tried Marplan? I think it has similar side-effects to Nardil, but is probably worth a try.
How is your Parnate trial going?

Enough Xanax will stop the panic attacks. The dosage could be anywhere from 0.25 to 6mg per day. The sedation will wear off in a couple of weeks and it has very few side effects (except dependence). From experience I consider Xanax absolutely a front line treatment for panic disorder.
Regarding the depression, Xanax has a weak antidepressant effect and is probably not enough as monotherapy. Maybe you have used a good antidepressant in the past you could use with Xanax? I use Lamictal.
BTW, (untreated) my panic/depression is also severe. Start with Xanax and go from there.

I also couldn't stand Nardil. Did you try Effexor (at high doses) ? Augmentation with T3 or lithium ? What about ECT ?
Tell me exactly what drugs you took so far and at what doses, what were the side effects so I can help you more.

Parnate might be better for you, if the side effects are giving you a hard time.

Effexor plus Benzo sounds like a worthwhile try.
Benzos rule..one of the only good categories of psychiatric medicine to date.
1) It usually helps unlike the rest of those crappy pills.
2) side effects are mild at best.
3) It isn't any more difficult to stop than Paxil or Effexor.

Right on Mr. Scott or is that beam me up Scottie? I agree 100%, if we could only convince the incompetent doctors of this fact. If I had Valium a long time ago my life would be much different and for the better. I have taken 15 mg. of Valium for GAD 12 years never needing one more mg. during that time. There goes the physical dependence theory of needing more and more to get the job done and I take 90 mg. of Nardil. It does cause the problems mentioned by the origional poster above: sexual dysfunction and weight gain which I have found there is no remedy for. Parnate has less of these effects and may be the choice for Spike and I can definitely understand his frustration. The new and unimproved Nardil by the way doesn't work as good as the old, but it causes the opposite of sexual dysfuntion, can't think of the word (pervert), lol. Hope I have been of some assistance.
Sincerely,
Luther
