Does anyone experience this on wellbutrin?

Posted by jarrettfan2 on October 28, 2001, at 9:29:08

I experience an almost amohetamine like response on wellbutrin, especially in the early morning. It makes me very nervous, but at the same time it has helped my mood tremendously. I was just wondering if anyone else had experienced this?

Yep. In fact Wellbutrin is somewhat chemically similiar
to the amphetamines/ephedrine, but it is
non-addictive.
The dopamine kick is also why it is useful to
treat stimulant,smoking,cocaine addiction.
Also will probably give you a little weight
loss. Any agitation associated with the med may
wear off over time. But it sounds like it
is working for you if you are getting the
amphetamine kick.

good luck,
-john

I am getting the amphetamine kick, but I do not like that feeling. It is making me very nervous and I think it is responsible for me going back into my hypochondriac type thinking. Nothing I do seems to combat the anxiety I am experiencing with the wellbutrin. Not even the increase to 20 mg's of zyprexa is helping at this point.

That said, I do sometimes get pretty easily agitated or anxious and maybe that's the WB. When the anxiety gets to be too much, I find that xanax helps. I don't take much of it and I don't take it very often, but it works quickly and effectively.

Yes. very much so, very much dose-related. WB works very similarly to amphets on your brain.

I was very jittery on Wellbutrin at first - I shook like I'd been drinking espresso non-stop for a couple of weeks, but it has since calmed down.

You might want to try taking some Neurotin to
help with the jitteriness. A benzo would help
to, but the docs may be less flexible there.
Maybe after a few weeks the jitteriness goes away.
Dropping caffeine intake will help a lot too.
I hate to see you drop WB since it is curing
your depression.

Good luck,
John

My pdoc put me on an SSRI to balance the WB. He has me on 40mg of Celexa to balance the 200mg of WB. I tried to go down to 20mg of Celexa due to sexual side effects. This was very bad for me. I was way too irritated and wired. My OCD was flaring up. I went back up to 40mg and I levelled out.

WB allows me to have a sex life. I'm sure that it is enhancing my mood too. I feel quite stable these days on my current mix.

I do know that I cannot use WB as my only anti-depressant.

Take Care,
Simcha
