I've had this happen on both Effexor and Zoloft:
I'm walking down the street, normal as can be, and then,
W*H*A*M* the next thing I know I'm clamy and wired and
start to experience a real rush of emotions and memories
but the REALLY weird thing is, they're not MY memories.
This scares the daylights out of me. It's terrifying
and I think I'm losing it or something. My Doctor says
its not a possible side-effect. It happens most when I
am late with my dose or if I've forgotten a dose. Has
anybody else experienced any strange stuff like this? It's
so intense and overwhemling, I usually just faint.
Anybody else experienced this kind of weirdness? What
is it? Why is it?

That's weird stuff.Any abuse in your past that would lead to
suppressed memories? Sounds almost like you
are dreaming while you are awake.I had an interesting experience on St. John's
Wort the 1st time it kicked in. I felt a massive
flood of emotions I hadn't felt in years, this
was accompanied by flashback memories to childhood
crumminess (although I was very undepressed on
the SJW!).-john

Well, yeah, it is like "dreaming" while I'm awake, and
it is none-to-pleasant. These memories, or images come at
me so quickly I don't have time to put them in any
kind of perspective as to what they really are.
Sometimes they're so vivid, so intense, I'm remembering
all these incredible details, but I can't place faces
or locations or the sounds or the smells. When they
become THAT overwhemling I just faint. Nothing
like this has EVER happened to me before in my life.
I was on Prozac for a couple of years, way back, and
never had any problems. Ditto for Paxil.I'm on Zoloft for Fibromyalgia (for once in my life
I'm not depressed, and my doctor puts me on anti-
depressants to treat Fibro...)I don't think these are supressed memories. If anything,
it's more like my conscious mind is tapping into
some unconscious part of my brain, maybe stores
even where dreams memories reside? It sounds too
weird.I mean all this sounds REALLY REALLY weird. I'm a very average
basically normal human being. I'm wondering how
I might find out if any research has been done on
psychological side effects of some anti-depressants,
particularly the stirring of these deep mental
images/memories. It really is disturbing. I think
I'd rather have the weight gain for a side effect.
