can anyone beat this list of meds I've
taken? Any doctor seing this would
scream. I'm a walking pharmacy.
Come on, I dare you....bring it on! ;)

Note, many of these I just tinkered with
for a few days.

I currently take Lamictal,Klonopin,and Zyprexa
and am doing fairly well.

it put me on cleaning out 95% of my wealth.

I was driving to the grocery store I remembered
my 2 day disastrous trial of

Your turn to trump. Surely you forgot
something? I was sticking to psychotropic
meds. Hmm, should we count ambien? Yeah,
I'll give it to you. ;)

I may need to through in claritin and non
psychotropic meds if things get nasty. But
then I think we are straying from the intention
of this news group.

As far as herbs,amino-acids,vitamins,5-htp
etc. Pretty much tried everything. If I listed
everything I would be taking a new med for
carpal tunnell syndrome.

I was thinking about putting together some
powerpoint slides to make it easier for me
to show my history of meds and reactions when
I see new physicians. But, I've found it best
to keep things concise and leave out the quicky
trials, unless they bring it up.

Wellbutrin,Klonopin,Paxil,Neurontin,Xanax,Zyprexa,
Serzone all helped with anxiety.

Buspar was a dud; I tried it upto 60 mg
and gave it a pretty fair trial.

I only listed psychotropics in the first section (22 total). That's why when I mentioned the others, I made the distinctions. I didn't include the Ambien or Sonata in the primary list.

If we made a rule which said all drugs in the primary list had to be tried for at least 1 week, how many would still be on your list? All of mine would still be there. What about if we said 3 weeks -- Serzone would drop off for me.

Ok. I think you are going to be tough to beat!

I'd like to point out that everyone in this
silly thread is still alive and kicking.
My point being that persistence is key to
obtaining our end goal. I'm sure everyone who
has been through the ringer like this will attest
to this fact. I don't know what it is, but some
part of me refuses to "lose" to these crummy
problems.

I would like to point out that all of us who
have "stuck around" should be given an award
for persistance. We all know what this means.
For some damn reason we all instinctively know
that there is a "cure","answer" whatever you
want to call it and our basic instincts as
human beings keeps us around to see the show.

I like to quote a line from a comedian:
"When we are born, we are granted a ticket
to the biggest freak show in the universe. Best
to sit back and enjoy the show"

The events that have occured in the world
over the past month have shed a new perspective
on my life and the depression that haunts me.

I want to survive and also attain a quality
of life that is deserved to everyone given the
gift of life. And I *refuse* to believe that I
can't have this.

I want to say to everyone on this newsgroup that
we are all part of a team battling some of the
most difficult ailments known to man. Yet we
persist. Please keep the torch inside burning.
We are all here to support each other. Everyone
here has a special place and meaning to the world.
I know this is extremely hard to grasp during
a deep depression. Please remember that this
is just our mind playing tricks with us and we
can't beat ourselves.

Well I can list my meds that I gave a long run
at. My basic premise on meds right now is that
if I can't stand the side effects after 1 week,
then it is time to punt.

I've given these meds a full run (either
got a response or held out for one for at least
6-8 weeks):

Paxil,Zoloft,Wellbutrin,Klonopin,Buspar,Lamictal,
Remeron,Adderall,Depakote,Serzone,Neurontin,Selegiline,Effexor.

The rest of the meds I tested for 1-2 weeks
and gave up due to side effects or ineffectiveness. A few I gave
only 1 or 2 days: Provigil and Mirapex.

I believe I will maintain Zyprexa for a while.

Anyways, I hope people got a little comic
relief from this. I seem to be reaching the
end of my psychiatric storyline after 2 years.
My heart goes out for those who contuinue to
search of the appropriate cure to tailor to
their needs.

The ones I took for longer than eight weeks and got a good response to were:

Lithium, Depakote, Neurontin, Klonopin, Prozac, Zoloft, Celexa, Adderall, Wellbutrin.

I am wondering if you could take the time to answer a few questions.

What is your diagnosis?
- I'm bipolar

What drugs have you responded best to?
- MAO inhibitors, tricyclics, Lamictal

What drugs have made you feel worse?
- Wellbutrin, protriptyline, amoxapine, reboxetine, Cytomel, Remeron, moclobemide

What are you taking now, and how well is it working?

- Lamictal, Effexor, nortriptyline, Geodon
- Mild improvement; inadequate

Hi again Scott...

Never considered to add Litium to your current mix? It´s many time the only drug, that don´t make things worse.

I read somewere that Lamotrigine can very often work better with a small amount Litium.
What about MAOI:Parnate..?

Hello Scott,

I'm not too happy with the length of the list either. I'll try to answer your questions.

I was diagnosed 20 some years ago with borderline personality disorder and major depression. Since then, atypical eating disorder, possible OCD, and GAD. 2 years ago, I was diagnosed with systemic lupus. Depression has been the main problem.

I responded well to Librium and Xanax early on. But after a while, became more depressed. Most helpful, was a combo of Prozac or Paxil plus Cylert, which I took for 9 years with good results(SSRI alone, didn't help much).

The worst meds were the tricyclics(caused a lot of anxiety, dry mouth, paranoia, hostility) and Wellbutrin(super hostility and agitation). Also, did not do well with Zyprexia because of agitation. Desyrel and Serzone made me feel zombied out and restless at the same time.

I am not taking any meds right now because unfortunately about 6 years into taking the SSRI plus a stimulant I started developing symptoms of lupus and was diagnosed with it a couple of years ago. Through keeping track of my symptoms, I discovered that the joint inflammation I was having seemed to be related to the meds. Right now I'm trying to figure out if I have drug induced lupus, or if one of the meds is aggravating a pre-existing lupus.

As to how I am doing with no meds, not all that great. I've been walking 30 min. per day, which helps, but each day is pretty much of a struggle.
Fatigue, no motivation, concentration poor, etc..

Sorry you have been through the wringer on meds too. Hope you find something that works.
