Looking for success stories on Celexa

Posted by genelowery on September 10, 2001, at 7:10:10

Has anone had success with Celexa? I have severe difficulty in falling asleep. Could this help with obsessive thoughts? Also, are there any side effects too difficult to handle or just little ones that you can get over in a week or so. I wish to thank you in advance.

Insomnia was one of my depression symptoms, and once I started Celexa in June, after about 2 weeks I was able to sleep again and just generally feeling better.

I did have a few side effects at first - odd worries, increased sweating - but nothing major, and they mostly stopped, though I still have occasional sweating attacks.

Gene:

I had very few side effects on Celexa - it just wasn't "strong" enough for me. It did help with sleep, though I would say Serzone did more so.

Good luck.

Gene,

I'm on 40mg of Celexa and 150mg of WellbutrinSR per day. The doc added the Celexa when it seemed that without an SSRI I was having obsessive/compulsive thoughts. It seems that since he added the Celexa to my mix, my obsessive/compulsive thoughts and behaviors have been held in check. I still have them from time to time but I can look at them more objectively and clear them with relative ease.

Insomnia was one of my symptoms of depression. Celexa seems to be a tad sedating for me. I have no trouble falling asleep at night. I do have very vivid dreams on the cocktail I am taking so sometimes I do wake up, but I am able to get right back to sleep. It is definitely better than before treatment.

I had some initial side-effects, sweating and floaties in the eyes, sexual dysfunction. I'm taking ginseng and ginko to combat some of these effects. It may be working or I may be adhjusting to my meds. I still sweat more than I used to, but I was always known to sweat more than others. I am finding that the sexual side-effects are more mild these days.

All in all I think I'm tolerating the Celexa well and the Wellbutrin may be allowing me to have a sex life and a little energy. I have found the Celexa to be a life-saver when it comes to my OCD.

Take Care,
Simcha

I take Celexa. I have taken it for about 18 months with a lot of success for anxiety and depression. It can help with obsessive compulsive thoughts. It may help you sleep by helping with some of your other symptoms but Celexa is not a sleep medication. It may make you jittery for the first few weeks. The only lasting side effect for me was sexual but taking Ginkgo Biloba has solved that problem.

Well, I've posted this several times before but since you asked....I've been on Celexa 40 mg./day since February and it has been very effective at combatting my depression/anxiety/obsessive thinking. Side effects: (1) though it helps me get to sleep, it also disrupts my sleep cycle (15 mg. Remeron added to the cocktail to combat this); (2)weight gain (though that may be more from the Remeron); (3)loss of sex drive (though much less so than Paxil).

All in all a fair trade, beats the heck out of sitting on my living room floor crying my eyes out!:)

Dave
