You can also procure it in its (identical) anti-smoking form ZYBAN (which has been available for a yr now). If nothing else (I've only been on it 2 wks) it reverses the Prozac-induced lethargy.

I'm going to suggest this to my doc in a couple of weeks.
He suggested adding prozac to effexor to deal with depression/social phobia but I think I need to stay awake first.

Dreamer,
I don't believe Wellbutrin (bupropion) has a generic form yet because it's still relatively new and its patent or whatever it is that protects drug companies by forbidding other drug companies from copying the formulas has not expired. You can find bupropion under the brand name of Zyban because it is also used for smoking cessation. I am not sure, but I think the pill doses and colors may differ, but it's the same stuff. I have been on Wellbutrin SR for more than 2 years.
Good luck.

> Dreamer,
> I don't believe Wellbutrin (bupropion) has a generic form yetIf this refers to my post, no there isn't a generic *form*, which is why I said my doc used the generic *name* (ie didn't specify a brand name which goes to prove Wellbut. & Zyban are interchangeable) :-)
BTW dreamer if oversleeping is an issue, I find I get less sleep on Wellbutrin & the alarm sometimes even wakes me up now.

I have a feeling that Zyban and Wellbutrin are a tiny bit dissimilar. One has HCL. I don't know if that makes a difference, antidepressant-wise.

Whoah.
Careful.
The Generic is Immediate Release, Zyban is Sustained
Release. That's important. If you ask for generic
Bupropion, you'll get immediate release (cuz there
is no generic for Wellbutrin *sr*), but if you
ask for Zyban, you'll get the identical pill to
Wellbutrin *SR*.Luck...
slPS I suppose I should mention that most people
respond better to the SR, due to the less-extreme
peaks and troughs of med in the bloodstream. So
if you have a choice you probably want to try
the SR FIRST. But if you're just a non-responder
(without bad side-effects) to SR, try Immediate
Release before you give up. :)

There's diethylpropion. I once spoke on the internet with somone who had his bupropion (Wellbutrin) prescription substituted with diethylpropion when he was in Europe and couldn't get the Wellbutrin.
This is the end of the thread.
