Hi, After Aururix, Li, Ciprimil and Tolvon over the past 12 months, my pdoc (is that the term for Physc doctor?) now wants me to go onto parnate, so will be seeing my GP in the morning.
I think JohnL had suggested combinations of Prozac, Adrafinil and Z(something), but in Australia the Adranfinil doesn't seem to be known about, as my pdoc is a proffesor at a leading uni med school, and my GP can't find it in any Australian publicatiosn.. so I guess onto the Parnate with it's food resrtrictions..
Would appreciate any advice from those who have been on it before, as don't want to blow a blood vessel in the brain... but do desparately want to feel well again
Thanks

You should try another tricyclic before you move on to MAOI's, perhaps the benign desipramine. (Desipramine to me is like taking Tylenol). This is because the MAOI's require a no-frills diet without cheese, chocolate, wine, or coffee (caffeine).

HI Sal
History before has included ananfranil, auroix, tolvon, prozac, ciprimil, serzone, auroix with Li, just about most ADs (can't remember all of them). The main successful one was auroix, but I seemed to have built up some resistence to it :( and when they added Li to it, made no difference at all.
I would love NOT to have the restrictions that Parnate will bring, but am flat out at work and need to perform, and have been through three other ADs over the past 8 months which did not take (or work)

I'm taking Aurorix right now. There may be a way to activate it again using pindolol. But I'm pretty sure you wouldn't give that a chance again.
I take Aurorix, and that is the only one that has worked for me after 26 other drugs failed.
Have you tried Lamotrigine or Gabapentin? I can prove over and over that these actually act as SRIs and are extremely worthy as antidepressants rather than anti-manic medications.
Other suggestions: Selegiline, BUPROPRION (may not be available in your country), mirtazapine (better than Tolvon), trazodone or nefazodone, carbamazepine XR, maprotiline, VENLAFAXINE (definitely if you haven't tried it), Tianeptine (new), Reboxetine (might have a prayer).
If you can't tolerate Parnate, perhaps you could try selegiline or isocarboxazid instead.
This is the end of the thread.
