Help!-Trouble sleeping on Depakote combo(?)

Posted by Krazy Kat on August 30, 2001, at 14:52:57

Hi all. I'm actually having trouble sleeping in my second week of Depakote, 1000 mg (750 at night, 250 in the morning) a day. I also take 250 Topamax (night), and 60 mg Prozac (morning).

I just cannot stay asleep at night unless I take 5 mg of Ambien, and then I sleep Well into the next day.

Has this happened to anyone? I was dead tired when I started Depakote, but now I'm fine as long as I don't take the Ambien, except that I have muscle cramps and really can't sleep at night. Then my eyes feel really tired the next day.

I, know it goes against common sense...

You could probably use some Trazodone.

Hi, k.k.,

You might be getting restless legs syndrome or restless body syndrome in your sleep from the Prozac. Sal mentioned trazodone which would be helpful, you also could try some Klonopin (I think it is prescribed for RLS). I got RLS real BAD from Zoloft and never could sleep worth a damn-would wake up with sheets, blankets, pillows are wrapped up, in the floor, etc.! Oh, another one might be a dopamine agonist such as Mirapex at bedtime.

Yes, Trazodone is good for Restless Legs Syndrome...I tried it. --it was the only thing that did anything, after trying Neurontin, Bromocriptine, and Mirapex.

Thanks much! (nm)
