Celexa in blood tests

Posted by April on August 30, 2001, at 15:47:28

I am going to have a blood test that will check for illegal drugs as well as a number of other things about my blood. I do not take illegal drugs but I want to know if anyone can tell me if they will be able to detect Celexa or Xanax in my blood unless they are specifically looking for it? I don't know much about blood tests or how long these drugs stay in your blood. Obviously I do not want these people to know that I am taking these drugs for depression and anxiety. If I miss a dose or 2 before the test will it be gone? This test is soon so any help would be appreciated.

For drug tests, usually they only test for illegal
or nonprescription drugs, and as far as I know,
such tests are NEVER for antidepressants.

Xanax may be a little iffier - although I think if
you have a prescription for it, you'd be in the clear.
I don't think it's a good idea to go off xanax suddenly
for something like this if you've been taking it
regularly - a friend of mine had a HORRIBLE withdrawal
reaction - basically a super panic attack that landed
him in the emergency room. I'd check with my doc first.

The doctor will probably be able to tell you if
employment drug screenings test for xanax, or you
could ask the tester him/herself - say you're on it
for a medical reason (assuming you're comfortable
doing so)and provide your doctor's phone number in
case they have any questions.

Just a suggestion...
