Interaction btwn Depakote and sulfur?

Posted by MM on August 28, 2001, at 17:13:11

Does anyone know if valporic acid and sulfur have an interaction? I'm on Depakote ER and Paxil (is there any interaction btwn paxil and sulfur?) and I bought a quit smoking aid that contains sulfur. I can't find anything on the web, and thought maybe since a few pharmicists post here, they might know? Anyone a chemist?

I checked there, but they didn't have the smoking aid on the list, and the sulfur I did find on the list was topical. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Pharmicists? anyone know about chemistry? please?

If not, anyone know any other sites where I might be able to find out if there's an interaction between depakote and sulfur?

Another thought: check with your Pharmasist (nm)

MM - What form of sulphur is in the stop smoking aid (ie. what is the full name of the sulphur containing chemical)?

Sublingual Sulphur (sulphur tablets that dissolve under the tongue - blech!) has no interactions with Paxil or Depakote, but I am at a loss to understand why there is sulphur in a stop smoking aid. Are you sure it isn't a salt form like "something" sulfate or "something" sulfite?

It's called Biocrave SAT and the ingredients are:
Main
Proprietary Blend 160mg
Sulfur
Medium Chain Triglyceride Oil

Other
Cellulose, modified cellulose, maltodextrin, leucine, silicon dioxide.

It does say
Warning: Consult a physician before use if you are allergic to sulfur or sulfite.

MM - Cool. Is the Biocrave working for you? I seem to remember, in the deep, dark recesses of my brain, something about sulphur and smoking (I have been pondering about it), but I may have dredged up a false memory, or something.

The triglyceride oil is probably what the sulphur is dissolved or suspended in. This probably would take away much of the sulphur's nasty taste and may prevent the "brimstone burps".

The "other" ingredients add bulk to the sulphur/oil mixture and to help the tablet stick together.

If it works for the cravings, go for it. - Cam
