A type of migrane can cause 'sparkles'

Posted by susan C on August 28, 2001, at 15:08:12

called optic migrane, not usually associated with pain, just a transient experience of bright sparkles. Doesnt develope into anything. Son and Optometrist have them, sot hat is is how I know about them.
Lots of info on the net. Sometimes meds can cause optical flashes. Also, as you get older you get 'floaties' look like lint, as a result of drying out of fluid between cornea and back of eye...just me rambling in response.

Well, I had migraines between the ages of 5 and 20 or 21, but they went away. As for the aging aspect, that probably doesn't apply to me since I am 25.

Katt,

What meds are you currently on? When I go up to 500mg+ of depakote I get all sorts of shimmering black spots if I rub my eyes just the least bit. Other meds can cause eye things too.

Mitch,

I am taking Ativan and Xanax. I just started serzone, but only for two days and 25mg - this was happening before the Serzone.
